Just found another pale blue example! This time it's the same as Henk's, i.e. no undercoat.

Well done Hugh! I had forgotten about these much lighter Studes that we had discussed earlier in the year. Was your latest example also found in the Netherlands? I have one lighter example that is similar in color to these that I have had for years, but hidden areas underneath it reveal that it is a very uniform sunfade that has both bleached the paint and also "Tanned" the interior. I still keep it with my originals because I have enjoyed inspecting and looking at it for over 40 years now. My search for an original very light example continues now that it is proved they were produced in small numbers. No one had ever commented on the existence of a real #42 red pre-pro model, any more info from anyone on that box art dream model? kwakers

I have been caught out several times by sunfades, but a close inspection, especially of areas where the paint is either thicker or hidden, has always revealed the original colour. I cannot find any evidence of these pale blue Studebakers being sunfades and, now that three examples are known, I think it has to be accepted as a genuine, released variation.

I've never heard of one either, but the box art indicates that at least one existed at sometime in the past. As to whether it survives to the present day, that's anyone's guess.

Nothing is real in this photo (except the model's casting), but it feeds the dream.

About 5 years ago at a local car boot i was talking to a train guy(selling train stuff) who said he had a red studebaker,he said he knew it was rare but i never saw him again,whenever a red stude is mentioned i wonder if thats the one that got away

Just wondering about the chronology of the window insert modifications. I know boxes can be swapped and so anything based on which model is found in which box cannot be considered conclusive, but could members with models in the first-type box (i.e. the one depicting the red model) please report whether the window insert 1) has a step, a short fillet, or a long fillet above the front seats and 2) wholly or partly fills the space between the rear wheel well and the tailgate. (Photographs illustrating these points can be found further up this thread.)
