Thanks Jason, I just wish they were all on display in cabinets or shelving for others to enjoy.

Think you would need a house full of displays.

This post is especially for Ali.

Ali is a guest viewer who follows my posts with enthusiasm to the extent he asked through a friend, Bill (''durangokid'') if I had a particular Matchbox Rolls-Royce variation. The supplied pictures showed a variation missing from my collection but it was clear why!

The model in the middle placed in the time-line order.

Can't spot the variation, here is another picture.

No! another picture then.

So, you have seen my pictures, anyone spotted the detail that made the particular model missing from my collection!!

Is the interior slightly yellower than the other two? The number plate is almost illegible - is this the Queen’s car, without a number?

No, not actually the interior although from the outside is is very creamy compared to other 24's but look through the arches or the open boot and it is pretty much the normal off-white.

So not the interior.

Am I allowed another go? Is it the boot lid?

Glen, you can have as many go's as you like and no, it is not the boot lid.

Hi Kevin and Glenn and hello to Ali and Bill,

It looks to have the body casting extension missing in front of the tow guide/with Pat number/tow guide pip combination. Very nice I might add and the paint jobs on the original model rates as one of my all time favourite on the later Lesney RW models.

Bert has spotted the detail.

Pictures 1, 2 and 3 show the models in time-line order and on my own reference listing the left model is number 16 while the right model is number 17. The middle model is the missing variation (for this posting only - number 16A), simply because it does not have the full tow guide, the little panel on the front valance is missing, not because it has broken away during tumbling but because it is an earlier body casting so for my records will be classed as an 'Old Stock' model but will not be a full variation because the old stock situation could happen anywhere along a model's time-line. It may not even be a full factory error because until the front part of the tow guide is pointed out, there is nothing wrong with the model!

Thank you again Ali and Bill, it has become a very welcome addition to the collection at Ghost Towers :D

So obvious now Bert's pointed it out! That's a very generous gift.

It's true that it could have happened any time, but I think that these mixed-age pieces are still proper variations (well, as long as another one is found!). For example, the 14c Lomas with the cross-guide casting can be found with the later reinforced base, but the later smooth-roofed body can also be found with the early base. They're all listed in Nick's guide.
