That looks a lot more credible - the ridge lines up with the ends of the ribs.numi wrote:Here are pics of the Bedford Tipper (Maroon Dump) with Ridge.
Ok Idris but please give me a few days and i will take more pics and have a closer look at the dynamics.Idris wrote:Numi, could you please have another look at your ridged tipper bed and try to make a value judgement regarding whether this is a deliberate casting variation of whether it is simply the result of a tool misalignment?
Im sorry Idris about overlooking your post.numi wrote:Ok Idris but please give me a few days and i will take more pics and have a closer look at the dynamics.Idris wrote:Numi, could you please have another look at your ridged tipper bed and try to make a value judgement regarding whether this is a deliberate casting variation of whether it is simply the result of a tool misalignment?

I agree. Furthermore, the combination of both gold and silver trim on the same model does not seem plausible.numi wrote:Looks like post-factory detailing to me.
I think a retooling is unlikely for two reasons. First, and most importantly, if it worked, why change it? Second, the retooling would involve significant work since material would need to be added to the die rather than removed. A whole new tool segment would therefore be required.numi wrote:Yes,the ridge on my tipper is deliberate and perfect as one would expect from a planned design and intended purpose. Im speculating here that the sole purpose of this 1.5mm ridge was merely to stop the tail-gate from going further back and jamming making it hard for for the kids to reset. When they found out that this wasnt the case then they simply dropped the idea OR is it possible that there were several designs/dies made at the same time for the tipper beds just before full production.
