Maybe a little to good on some of them. There appear to be replacement tyres on the '30 Series' (un-riveted models), which is no bad thing, we replace tyres on our real cars! but the axles then look to clean for original period issued models, 1945 to early 1950's, so some repainting may have taken place, because once the axles are removed, bodies and fenders can easily be touched-up or fully re-painted. Models such as these need to be held 'In Hand' by the specialist collector to fully establish their status.
A visit to a toy fair is in order to get the views of a Dinky collector, but hold off selling on the first offer!

I'm 99.9% certain that no repairs have been done to these. Some of the collection have 'flat tyres' where they've been stored for so long.
My dad remembered taking great care with them as a child. Never smashing them into each other or rough playing. And he always put them back in boxes when he finished playing with them.
Pretty much all of them are in the same condition. The Foden tanker is probably the cleanest one with the tiniest of marks on the bumper.
And for the last god knows how many decades they've been untouched in boxes in the loft.

OK, thank's for some clarification and I take on board your ability to describe the models as such.

Hi Fordy,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad.
All the models you've posted are Postwar, which I had expected given your Dads age if he got them new.
Most of the cars are 46 -49 or around there.
I have to say they look very good original from what I can see in the photos, I would give Vectis a call, they're probably the closest. I've only ever purchased from them mind you.
Cheers

Just thought I'd but a couple more pictures up. The Foden looks to be in really good condition for its age. Would this be described as 'mint'?

The crane also comes boxed. Box in similar condition to the Foden. It also came with this piece of paper. Is that worth anything, or make it more desirable?

Hi Fordy,
They really are in lovely condition, they're a credit to your Dad.
It's only my opinion, but the Foden isn't truly mint, as a model is only ever truly mint once, in the exact condition it left the factory. It is however very near mint, and probably worth 90 + % mint value if there is no damage to the box.
Cheers
Chris Warr.
PS Any chance of some pics of the rest of the cars?

Thanks Chris. I did wonder from other stuff I'd read and seen being described as mint, but now you've said it, near mint does ring a bell. Lol
I'll take some more pics over the next couple of days and upload them.
Do you want some of the whole collection?
Are there any particularly rare ones in there at all?

Hi Fordy,
If you could do pictures like you have of the rest of the cars that would be great.
Cheers

Hi guys
I got in touch with Vectis and from the group pictures I posted on here, they have come back with a valuation of £1,000-£1,100. I've got to be honest, I was expecting it to be quite a bit more than that, given there are 50 or so models, and the condition they are in.
What are your thoughts? I appreciate it is only an estimate based on a few pictures but £20 a toy as an average seems low to me.

Seems low to me too, especially for models in that kind of condition.
The same thing happened recently to someone else with some pre-production Models of Yesteryear. Perhaps Vectis give low valuations in order to avoid disappointment, but the danger is that they will simply scare interesting collections (like this one) away.
The last few Vectis sales have seen high hammer prices (probably due, in part, to the devaluation of Sterling on the foreign exchanges). I would suggest that you ignore their valuation and submit the models for auction. (You can always put reserves on them to stop them being sold ridiculously cheap.)
