Nice to see so many rarer colour issues - even with light playwear these have the look of having been treasured. The auction lot in particular looks like it was one boy´s personal treasures that were well taken care of but clearly enjoyed.

I accept these for what they are, some Dinky officianado's get their underwear in a significant knot over them. I know they'll never be in demand as much as the originals but I like them all the same and will pick up as many as I can if the price is right.

I have an original DB5 on its way to go with the box I got in the recent group lot. I will do a comparo photo shoot when it arrives.

Plenty more English Dinky's still to come in this new series too, I will photograph the promo leaflet and post tomorrow.

Technically they havent re-issued anything as Atlas werent in business in the 1960s & dont use the original tooling although the new tooling was designed using an original toy. I personally think most Atlas models are very nicely made accurate copies of the originals and I have already bought 2 and will buy perhaps half a dozen more. I have some spare Dinkys that have lost their charm for me in the face of all the other amazing vintage diecast that has come my way and wont buy anymore with all the nicest being made in Atlas versions .............

Your Dinky collection is progressing really well! Interesting to see the Lucas tanker with jewelled headlights, which I wouldn't have expected on a late issue like this. My example has the cast headlights. I have an Esso tanker which has indentations for jewels but they are empty with no sign that headlights were ever fitted. Not sure if this is an error, economies of late production or they simply fell out! It must be late production, as it has the same cast wheels as on the Lucas tanker. One unfortunate feature of the Esso version is the way the labels seem to fade rather easily.

This is a forum where folks like to discuss whether or not items are factory originals or customs - surely dinkys must get faked as often as Lesneys??? I am not a Dinky expert,only own almost 100 but havent studied them closely.... is there anything on that jewel headlamp Lucas truck that could support it being a custom rather than an original like oversize jewels with no traces of glue visible?

I don't think there's any reason to think the Lucas tanker has been tampered with at all. Dinky had produced that cab with diamond headlights before, so it's much more likely to be a case of using up old castings. I'm not an expert on this model, but my feeling is that cast headlights are likely to be much commoner on the Lucas version. Unfortunately the Vectis pictures on the Dinky reference section of this website don't show the headlights.

Well I'd say my research is inconclusive on the jewels. There are not that many images available and of the ones that are the majority have the cast in headlights. There is nothing obvious to suggest these have been added or messed with. The casting definitely is original with the light bowls being cast in, undrilled with totally intact paint. So as to originality of the jewels who knows.

I've got a whole lot of new additions which arrived this week to photograph and post over the next couple of days, so I will try and post some close up shots for posterity and we can revisit when better photo's turn up via Vectis or elsewhere.

I think our postal system hasn't been working too well lately. I've been waiting for some items from offshore for up to a month.

Then this week I got the motherload, all the items below arrived in a 3 day period. I had a good time unpacking this little lot!!





I am most happy with the Shackleton, it needs some front suspension geometry adjustments, is missing the clockwork motor and driveshaft, the cab is more than likely repainted, but for the princely sum of 50 quid I am more than willing to accept its shortfalls.







The Ruston Bucyrus Excavator was also a bargain, The auction photo didn't do it any justice. I thought I could give it a makeover and it has worked.

And with its brother which I've had for a while. Repro tracks are on their way. Biazarrely the boxed near mint condition one has the broken pivot block which is quite common with this model. The playworn examples block is intact despite an initially very stiff mechanism.
