Is the router plugged into the 'Master' socket or 'Remote' socket (an extension socket from where the first socket to be installed in the home). 'Master' socket will be a good place to start a lengthy process of ilimination of faults.
If the unit works when plugged into the 'Master' socket, then the fault lies in the 'Remote' socket or the filter plugged into that socket. Change the filter if you have another one or try without filter, they are there to screen out other signals from baby monitors, mobile phones or other radio based systems nearby.
Access to your routers settings does require a stable internet connection and typing this into your browser search box...198.168.1.1, should open up your specific routers user adjustable settings and while I don't recommend you adjust much while in there, it is worth noting down a few things.
Do we want to take this any further or let the 'Guy from Sky' have his moment of fame by fixing your router problems...
Ghosty.
OMFG!!!!............Kevin could you please translate your comments into plain english?

Well the Sky Techy phoned me back today and confirmed what i already knew........ my router has passed on to router heaven. As expected Sky offered to replace my router for.....wait for it......£69.99. At this point i told them to go f***k themselves, which seemed to do the trick and within literaly 2 seconds i was offered their latest router brand new in box for £19.99
It certainly pays to be abusive occassionaly........the only down side......3 - 4 days for delivery and at this time of year that means the end of next week no doubt if i am lucky!!!!

Basically any similar modem will work - its just the internal settings that have to be applied. Usually access this by typing in
http://10.1.1.1 ( they may have another access number though)
