Very interesting Mike, i was not aware of this phenomenon.

Assuming both yours and Mathias's Lomas's left the factory this way, what was happening in the painting that would have caused odd colour shade doors to be fitted to the same model? I note that it's the same door on your lomas as Mathias's lomas which is the whiter shade and furthermore that the paint on both these left hand doors appears to be a very thin coat.

Perhaps some of the other guys might be able to explain what's going on.

Left-hand side doors and right-hand side doors, sprayed at different times, with different paint supplies. The castings on one sprue would all be the same shade and I expect one sprue only has the one door casting.

An operater would pick the doors out of a hopper for the left side and another hopper for the right side and while there would be roughly the same amounts of doors in both hoppers by weight, not by quantity, at the start of the shift, casting faults, droppages on the floor and other natural wastages will deplete the number of castings in one of the hoppers, but rather strangely not both hoppers by the same amount, that's how life is and the next refill of doors for the hopper will have doors from another stock and it looks like the refill stock has come from a completely different batch of painted doors.

Does that make sense, I hope so, I tried to keep it clear,

GHOSTHUNTER.

Yes, Motorman, the difference is also:
My model has black wheels,
Mathias model has silver wheels.
Both models have different white rear doors.

Cheers Mike

Yes Mike i noticed that Mathias has the rarer SPW variant, i didn't want to rub it in ;) . I would be happy with either in my collection!

As for Ghosty's explanation???? It is certainly plausible, but surely the production of left and right doors, if painted and assembled at the same time would be using the same paint stock??..........I don't know!!

What bloody quality controls did they have in place? Evidently very little!!!!!!

Both models are still winners despite their odd doors. :D

The white doors were probably left over from the very rare first run which was the only pure white lomas, all the rest were cream.
