Hans wrote:Always nice to see old pictures that you almost forgot about (at least that is often the case with me). Along with sorting out old photographs and scanning them I am also digitizing my old Sony Video8 tapes (approx. 30). My old Video8 equipment did not work anymore. Collected too much dust probably over the years, but a few weeks ago I could lay my hands on a professional Video8 player/recorder for a reasonable price. It plays the old tapes perfectly to record on a harddisk. I came along quite a few video's with old campers and cars on it. Also some of the motorhome misfortunes I described before were caught on tape. I don't know if I want to be remembered of these occasions haha.
My next post will be the last one on my motorhome adventures, and no, my misfortune has not ended yet.......
Below is a picture I think from the mid eighties with some of my posessions at the time. When I saw this picture again I thought it would make a great jigsaw puzzle.....
I had one of those A40 peddle cars in the late 60s

I bought the Austin J40 about 30 years ago from the motormuseum in Mouldsworth Cheshire for 90 GBP. I actually still have it. It's awaiting a restoration for many years now, but sofar I did not get any further than taking it apart. They fetch nowadays thousands of pounds in restored condition, and even in bad condition many hundreds of pounds.
The parts are still available but are quite expensive to buy.
I am still hoping to restore it one day now that I am retired.

Yes, I was quite lucky to get it for that price. It was in 1978. I just found out that the museum has closed down for over a year now. The stock was auctioned in januari 2013. It was a beautiful little museum with old cars, lots of model cars and antique teapots. I visited it many times. The first photo from their original website shows my J40 as it was displayed before I bought it. The second photo was taken today, where the car is hanging from the ceiling awaiting restoration.
The third photo was taken around 1954 in the city of Haarlem in Holland by a professional photographer who used the car as attraction to photograph children.
It's me in there with my mum next to it.

Lovely memories Hans, thanks for showing the photos. It looks like a nice project, have you still got the chrome work?

Not really. I am missing the bumpers, the wheel covers, and the headlight rims. The other chrome parts need to be rechromed.
The main problem is that, when I bought the car, it was converted to electrics by means of a battery and a car dynamo.
The pedal mechanisme was missing, but I made one myself so that my children could use it in the eighties.
Also the boot hinges are missing, and as they are welded to the car and the boot I don't think I can get them separately.
It needs more work on the seats, the bodywork needs welding, plastering and a respray.
So plenty of work ahead. The main issue is getting the missing parts at a reasonable price.

Quite a lot of searching and work involved, but perhaps a labour of love :)
