And it would appear to be in two different shades of green if i am not mistaken the body being a darker shade than the boom and the bucket!!

Hello Jason,

As a fan of Kingsize also, this is a very nice find, well done. I remember reading many years ago about the re-design of the shovel. Quite an alteration needed in the mould re-making. Nigel Cooper has one and my notes indicate it had clear windows and his casting was unpainted.

The other noticeable feature on your model in addition to the colour and fixed bucket is the shorter axles and single hub/tyres as apposed to the dual hub/tyres on the later models. Very nice and only the second heard of and seen.

Is the white plate between base and cab plastic on this one as well - like on the production model?

Thanks for great pic- love it.

Regards
Bert

Hi Alex,
Yes 2 different greens on this model, will try and match up the lighter green when I can.

Bert, yes the model has some interesting features compared to the production version.Yes the white is plastic, the base on this model also lacks the year.
Clear windows I have seen on the kingsize and superkings, not sure how hard they are to find but I have not really looked at present. Think I have clear windows in the superking version but not sure about the standard kingsize.

Excellent find Jason, Wolfie would have enjoyed this thread. It'll be interesting to see if the green paint matches up, apart from the Ford there are a number of Kings in green including the Road Roller, the twin tipper, the Racing Car Transporter, Foden Wrecker and the combine, but the lighter shade does look a bit different.

It is very probable a new colour could be tried on a 'Pre-Pro' model first to see how it looks in the hand. We know previously unseen colours on full production models are 'Colour Trial' models, but there must have been times when a new colour was chosen and the few models or bare castings lying around could just be 'Pre-Pro' models. The dark Green on the model shown by Jason may well be a colour kept in stock and used on other models mentioned by "Johnboy" but the lighter Green on the same model may be new stock of a colour waiting to used on full production models from any of the ranges made by Lesney at that time, so could this lighter Green be found on a '1-75 series' or a 'Yesteryear' model?

Hello John, Jason, Numi, Kevin, Alex,
Think Wolfie would be pretty pleased with some of the new findings of late, always loved his pictures of multiple lots.

My first thought of the green boom colour was from a model in the same series and that one being the K9 Combine Harvester.

I have borrowed half of each picture for a comparison of the Greens, I have only added a small amount of brightness...

...and even with this simple test, the Boom Green is close to the Combine Harvester Green.
