The next chapter of my once owned campervans. Sometime around 2002 I investigated the possibility to swap the current VW T3 for a more modern T4. The advantage of having the engine in the front was a much better weight balance. The biggest problem was the different dimensions and to fit the body without major modifications. I decided to go for it, made some adaptions (filled in a 6 inch gap between car and body and changed the colour scheme) and drove it for about 2 years. No major problems except when trying to sell it. In the end I swapped it with someone for a factory built Fiat Dethleffs. On this one I modified the interior by turning the seating area by 90 deg (I had to alter something to put my stamp on it). I kept this one for almost four years till 2008 without any major incidents (very boring haha). So not much interesting on these two cars to publish. But I promise to compensate that in the next story. To be cont'd.

With our motorhome on Plöckenpass.
A mountain boundary between Austria and Italy.
In 1357 above sea level. About a very steep and narrow Bergstarße.
A wonderful experience.

Looks like a fun road to drive, especially in a motorhome Mike. I always like to choose the less obvious roads. I could fill an extensive post with all the adventures I have come across in a motorhome in the past on country roads and in muddy fields (mainly in the UK). Maybe some other time.
And yes, zBret, now that I write down these adventures, they look like a lot of fun, but they did not look it at the time I can assure you, haha.
But if you think this was extreme, the worst is still to come in my next experience. More about that in my next post.
PS below an alternative to the motorhome just for fun. Very cheap to run.

Here is my own personal mode of transportation. I built this ride by putting two bikes together, with a few other pieces that I fabricated, made the saddle bags myself, as well.
It's what is known as a DIY "long-tail" cargo bike and serves as general transport, for my daughter and I, as well as grocery getter and all around hauler, depending on which configuration I run it in.
It has a 24v electric hub motor on the front wheel, so pedaling is not too difficult and it's very cheap to run!
Rides great, there is really no sensation that you are on a long bike, in fact when I'm on my regular bike it now seems short to me.

Great piece of engineering zBret, that bike of yours. It must be fun to ride. I have an electric bike myself and know how comfortable they are to ride.
Would you fancy to pull one of these ? I suppose the black thing in the middle of your photo is the 24v battery ?
