Hi Ghosthunter

Congratulations on adding a new addition to your collection, from talking with you and reading your posts I know you struggle to find find new models.

Excellent for the other members mentioned to help you get it too, nice looking model by the way.

Hi Ghosthunter

You will get there in the end, and on the subject of Rolls Royce models, I watched one end through ebay earlier and it sold for good money, I don't know how to put the link on my post with a phone but it was a Superfast no 39 in white with red interior, listed as a pre production and a really nice model.

Maybe you saw it, do you own this variation?

Hello Lee.

No I do not own that particular model and without seeing good quality pictures of the baseplate ('Pre-Pro' models have short exhaust pipes), or seeing it 'In Hand', it is difficult to confirm it's status and if original, could be worth a lot of Money and it all depends on how much Money a collector is prepaired to pay to have it in His/Her collection.

If it has long exhaust pipes, it is more likely to be a colour trial model using a model from the production flow line, where a handfull of models are painted in colours for the Monthly new products meeting to asses and decide if that colour works for the model. It may well then be put into full production in the new colour.

Hi Ritchie

That's the one thankyou for that, and I can't comment on the rivet area myself as I am no expert, but one thing I did notice was the wheels look a bit tired to me, especially compared to my boxed variations of this model, or is this common with a trial model.

The remains of some type of adhesive seems to be where the little foil held pin was fixed for the Matchbox roadway set.

Now Three examples of this model have been found, it should qualify for an addition on Nick's code listing.

Not buying many new models these Days because there is not much being made and apart from the Two new Oxford releases, I have had my Eye on this one for a while.

While it shows 1/43rd scale on the base, it is bigger than a known 43rd model by Franklin Mint, but I did not have one of those handy. It is shown here with a 'Yesteryear' Silver Ghost which is 1/51 scale and I think the Franklin Mint model would be between them.

Made by C.I.L. in China, it came through my front door from ebay at £8.50 (full new price is around £11).

The new Oxford Diecast Rolls-Royce Phantom V has now been added to my collection.

This is quite a good model and now that I have it I can see very little artistic license has been used. The mascot appears to be the same one Oxford used on their other recently release Rolls-Royce the Phantom III, which on the real cars is not the case, a Phantom V mascot is smaller than a Phantom III mascot. They also seem to have got something wrong with the Silver-Grey lower body paint as it is much too thick and has a satin finish instead of the high gloss finish of the upper body colour.

The headlamp housings are sadly very wrong giving the frontal aspect of the car a rather 'Surprised' look about it and the Chrome trims above the headlamps are almost eradicated because of the thick Silver-Grey painting, so Oxford have not tried to pick these out in Chrome!

For those interested, the model is based on chassis number 5VD5, a November 1964 delivered car and the registration of ''EBY 148B'' is it's Third, so it is not the original index plate, but many Rolls-Royce cars get re-registered as they pass into private ownership from company ownership.

If you want to see the real car, it is currently being used as a hire car with 'Ultimate Classic Car Hire' in London.
