If MICA was the officially backed Matchbox club, would a lot of the models have gone into the Chester Toy Museum, stayed there and enjoyed then split up when MICA closes!

My information is that the Chester Toy Museum's core collection was actually Ray Bush's (the man behind U.K. Matchbox) which initially passed into the care of Lesney in the person of Paul Carr, before ending up in the Museum. It is possible that the Company's collection (which was completely unknown before Stannard and has never been heard of since) was amalgamated, at least in part, with Ray's collection.
Personally, I wonder whether there ever was a Lesney collection as such or whether it was simply a number of odds and ends which had been gathered up from the various factories and lumped together.
