Thank's Guys for the very constructive comments so far and this is exactly what a forum is about, we have stated something early on and members have been moved to comment.

I am sure Hugh will be reading this and taking on board what has been said and I back the ideas being put forward here for changing those titles or combining them into the 'Welcome to the forum'.

I think I am not posting often because I am bad at posting pictures. I really should teach myself that skill, because I do possess interesting things. I am also not that good at spotting fakes. I leave issues to those who really understand tiny variations.
I will answer posts if I think I can be of help. I have a pretty good knowledge of American model decals for when they show up as rare variants "APEX EXCAVATING" for example.
I like the forum. I am always interested to learn things I did not know. I am not a beginner because I have been collecting for many many moons, but that day that I think I know all there is to know. I will get out of the hobby and do something else.
I do think beginners corner should be changed to something like "This May Be Obvious But..." which sounds more like an easy question and answer forum than school.

Thank's Hans, some interesting points and your statement of leaving the hobby when you feel you know everything is probably true with other members and I know myself I will never reach that Day, as my continuing appetite for model car information is truly un-healthy.

I also like your title idea to replace Beginners Corner, thank's.

I'll be as quick and short as I can.
1) I have VBD as one of my preset homepages. So I'm on almost everyday (although I've been on my partners notebook for three months - SOOOO glad to have my old laptop fixed).
2) I am BUSY. And when I say busy, I mean running 2 businesses (The antique/model sales and I'm a groupage courier running items up & down from Cornwall), I have another job deliveries flour for a local mill 3 times a week. I also squeeze in as many swapmeets as I can. Then there's 4 ponies to look after and train with my partner, and I also help her with her work as an artist.
3) I do use VBD, but right now its mostly to advertise which swapmeet I'm going to be selling at next (Shepton Mallet on the 31st if you need to know).
4) I never really collected the old stuff many of you are interested in, so I am unable to comment on quite a lot of the content purely because I haven't got a clue, and so many others of you do.
5) My collection has now been sold (to my business) so I only have 15 models in it now, that I want to keep
6) As a young lad in his mid 30's, the era I remember is 1983 to 1995, so when matchbox was owned by International, Tyco & now Mattel. You may have noticed but the modern matchbox area of VBD does not get many users or lookers as the 'made in everywhere but England' models don't interest most of you.
7) I know a lot about Matchbox, or at least I did until I joined. I can talk the talk to a random person at a swapmeet, but some of you possess an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Matchbox/Lesney etc... and its better for me to read & learn, than get involved on a subject I don't really know much about (Compared to many of you)
8)And Finally... I have had many variations pass through my collection & business, but its only every now & again that one surfaces that hasn't already been shown (Matthais I'm pointing my fingers right at you as your collection is simply stunning and you have every variant it seems). I also can't compete financially to get the mint rare model I'd like. £25 is a lot of money for me to spend, and many models I've wanted over the past few years have sold for much much more, and as interest increases in the said eras they will rise further. I remember before I decided to sell up, I had some money to spend after a good few weeks hard work, so I bid on nearly 50 models on one of Rockertrons auctions. I didn't even come close to winning a single one, and I was bidding strongly and above the 'book value' for some items. Which has kind of put a downer on things. I don't have the spare time to trawl every swapmeet box looking for that hidden gem. But I'm also not just going to throw money at it to get the ones I want.

I do still enjoy Matchbox though.

Edit: Oops forgot to add, I'm also on the wildcamping, pug306.net & Transit Van forums, which also take up some time

Mr Shockwave.
Thank's for the background info and while it was not really necessary to tell us all that, it does make for some interesting reading and highlights quite well what a busy person you are.

The key phrase for me is...

"I do still enjoy Matchbox though." and we want you to still enjoy Matchbox and yes, the modern items do not receive as much attention as the old, I must applaud "Jimgallegoss" for finding time to post in that section, whatever you can bring to the forum is appreciated, as it is from all forum members, it is your forum after all.

Hello Idris & all,

First off, I have a wonderful and large collection of vintage Lesney and Dinky toys, with a smattering of 1/43 vintage Corgi toys. I also have a very large collection of Pre, and postwar Lionel trains, and some great vintage wind-up tin boats from the pre-war era. I have been collecting toys for about 28 years now & have been very lucky in my hunt for these treasures. I don't typically buy toys on-line- I take pride in the fact that most of my collection has been uncovered locally. My area seems to still be rich with old toys hiding in basements and attics.

I used to post my finds and comment quite often back the old MCCH days, but I just don't seem to have time anymore. I work long hours, and have a young family to spend time with. I have recently purchased a real (1:1) hobby car that I also spend time driving and working on when I can. I also continue to get out hunting for old toys occasionally.

I have made many friends over the years from the MCCH that are on VBD now. I much prefer the VBD format and culture (being politically correct here) over the old MCCH. I generally take the time once a week (usually Friday evening) to spend an hour or so getting caught-up with all of the posts. I truly enjoy this time & I always seem to learn something.

I will make the effort to comment more often...now that you mention it, I realize that I do miss being more involved.

Have a great evening,

Scott

You really are busy SWT!!
I am aware that the modern matchbox section does not receive as many posts but it is very encouraging to see JimG posting in this section. It has certainly reminded me that there is another dimension to the world of Matchbox other than the vintage RW,s and early SF,s and I hope Jim will continue to expand this section with more images and more knowledge, I hope that this may encourage young guns like you who appreciate the more recent matchbox models to add a comment or two when you can. I am very sure that you know much more about modern matchbox than most of us. :D

I agree with Al the modern section does get somewhat over looked and Jim's postings are helping me a lot
