Interesting 32c Aral
Re: Interesting 32c Aral
Neither have I it was just a theory to explain the apparent UK price on your box Hugh , it just seems likely to me to keep shop supplies flowing maybe I wasn't clear enough

And yet you have a box with a price ticket that suggests otherwise. Perhaps a batch of these, however small, did end up on a shelf in a Wooly's near you Hugh.Idris wrote:I have never heard or read any reports of Aral tankers having being found in UK shops.fixer wrote:I can't see any reason models destined for over sea's markets couldn't end up on the home market and vice versa after all they are toys and surely stock would have been sent to where it was needed especially at high volume times like Christmas , if some Aral tankers were needed to make up an order for a large customer such as Woolworths it would be logical to do so

Just for the sake of clarity, it's not a price ticket but a hand-written price. It does make me wonder......motorman wrote:And yet you have a box with a price ticket that suggests otherwise. Where did you buy the box from Hugh?

It was an Ebay purchase from a Uk seller.johnboy wrote:Where did you buy the box from Hugh?
Re: Interesting 32c Aral
I guess the hand written price ticket could have been added by someone in the UK at a garage sale or church fair in the early 70's, who knows.Idris wrote:It was an Ebay purchase from a Uk seller.johnboy wrote:Where did you buy the box from Hugh?

Re: Interesting 32c Aral
That is curious, as we know many smaller retailers wrote prices on boxes. I wonder if it was a delivery error or perhaps some back-door stock that found its way to retail.

Re: Interesting 32c Aral
Maybe it is part of some unwanted stock returned to the UK for resale, its possible the shop closed down and if the stock was on a sale or return basis (still very popular today for small retailers), it would have to come back to the UK.
Can you determin what the price is Hugh.

Re: Interesting 32c Aral
There are quite a few possibilities, maybe a UK collector picked one up during a visit to a German swapmeet, and then sold it on in the UK. I came across a Superfast version in box during the 70s at a UK swapmeet for not much money, so it could be.

I'm back home now and so am able to look.GHOSTHUNTER wrote:Can you determine what the price is Hugh.
The price is very clearly 2/3. Putting this into context, the price of Matchbox cars immediately before decimalisation (on 15/2/71) was just under 3/-. (They were 15p after decimalisation.) I think this could therefore de a normal retail price since, if it were being resold by a collector, a significant mark-up could be expected.
