Re: A message from Nick via facebook...please read!
I use windows XP and have NEVER allowed automatic updates since coming online in 2003. I have had virus problems twice and hardware failures twice - luckily I have a friend who fixes my computer and whatever version of XP I use now is whatever he re-installed the last time he rebuilt my computer.......

I must admit that I liked XP (in as far as I like any versions of Windows - which is about as far as I can spit a rat), but I grudgingly ungraded to Windows 7 shortly before Microsoft withdrew support for XP.
Put simply, without Microsoft releasing security patches for XP, the operating system will increasingly become a target for cybercrime. I know that the chance of falling foul of such a thing is extremely small, especially if your careful about where you go on the Internet and also have good anti-virus software installed, but the new method of spreading viruses and malware via compromised advertisements makes it harder to avoid potential exposure. Obviously an adblocker goes a long way to dealing with that issue, but it's only a matter of time until they dream up another way of injecting code into our PCs.

I had 20 updates when I went to shut down but but as it was 11pm I just left it to close down on its own, when I went on it the next day it just worked as normal, (lucky)

Not to mention that more and more applications fail to run properly on XP and that only gets worse.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
