I guess Harold Colpitts + Bob Brennan would have imported these direct from Lesney so the VW could have been made for a US VW car club so made in USA seems to be the answer,unlikely to have ever been to Japan !

I then assume with what has been said that these have been collected over a period of time makina set but why
the odd ball vw when all the others are the standard models

Because it was available unsold! There must be more of these VWs in USA unless it was a one off sample rejected by a VW car club - most likely East Coast not too far from NY as its most likely the sole importers were Harold Colpitts + perhaps Bob Brennan

How would this be coded if at all i have seen another about a year ago at a toyfair at stafford but could not get to
speak to the trader
