I see that according to Paul Carr (
here) only 250 of these tampo Sambrons were made for promotional purposes in France. I do wonder whether that figure (like the 3,000 Beales-Bealsons) is actually correct.
Certainly they were not all sent to France since I saw them for sale in boxes in a toy shop in the UK and, on the old forum, it was reported that they had been found blister-packed in the US (with the tampo towards the carboard!). Now I know that this promotional was mentioned in U.K. Matchbox and I'm pretty sure that it was stated that the models sold through normal retail outlets were simply the result of overproduction of the promotional version, but I can't find the reference.
Can anyone add any more facts?
