Well, from November11th while I believe my computer was still down, till December 4th, no one made a move on Numi's clever spotting of this first casting 49B, as unbelievable as it sounds to me. By the time I got my computer back and looked at this Post, it was weeks old and December 1st. I read it, called up the pictures, and saw that the Buy it Now E Bay listing was still active??????? The blue napkin-like background made this one hard to spot, so I had to double check Numi to make sure and asked for a base shot from the Seller. Shame on me! It came 3 days later, and was clearly a first base casting Unimog. WOW! I had only seen this one in pictures, but now today I have it in front of me.
Thanks Again go out to to Eagle-Eyed Numi.
The 37 Cattle Truck is NMint, The 44 Refrigerator Truck is Mint, the 16 Scammell without plow is a beater, but the Mint 10 Pipe Truck was also a surprise in my book. It turns out to have a later WHITE base with tow slot and platform, but has no axle reinforcements. Although quite common when originally sent here to the U.S., this one shows no signs of playwear from this Seller's childhood collection. Do not ever doubt Numi, Christian. My 'Want' list now has a pretty nice filler noted in that 49B first casting spot.
Because this variation was missed by Brennen and Colpitts in their Guides in the early 70s, they were not ever 'Seen' by we U.S. collectors until Stannard listed it in 1985. The first I ever saw pictured was in Hardy's E Bay Store 3(?) years ago now. As Joe said above, he had found several of these in the wild, so thought very little of it being rare, maybe just a bit 'tough'. I am very happy to now have just this one 'beater' example with this early base. Yippee and Cheers! kwakers
49b First Casting
Re: 49b First Casting
Well, to me, it's not as unbelievable as it sounds. because I know that only one person contacted me about the Paul Carr article (and I won't embarrass Jason by naming him), and no one has shown any interest in the pale straw, small GPW 29a (not only a rare colour, but also a previously unrecorded wheel variation and therefore doubly htf) which I have available.kwakers wrote:Well, from November11th while I believe my computer was still down, till December 4th, no one made a move on Numi's clever spotting of this first casting 49B, as unbelievable as it sounds to me.
