Hi Mick,

The Lotus is an excellent find. There's a Yum Yum shop about 4 miles from my house.
If you don't already know this Yum Yum was founded in !971 the same time that the Lotus was discontinued. I would find it doubtful that
a small start-up would ask Lesney to do a promo when Mattel was right up the road.
I think the chip company may be a more logical route. The fonts on there logo looks very similar to your model.
Plus, they have been around since 1959.
Regardless of the possible promo idea. It's an excellent find, as is the Rolls.

Could it possibly have been a small-scale (i.e. purely local) promotional on the same basis as the Beales-Bealeson 46b?

Why pick a British racing car for an American Promo?

Label aside, a very nice find Mick. Probably a colour trial and a very nice one indeed.
Yum Yum custard tarts seems to ring a bell with me but thats probably just me thinking of food again.

That would make more sense: a colour trial with an after-market 'label.

That is the most likely explanation, with an aftermarket label adding to this "promo" confusion.

Nice find Mick and this is not a model I am familiar with either. I get excited finding much more subtle variants than this and finding something so drastically different than the factory issue must feel great! Especially on a model where there are relative few variants to collect.

Based on your pictures I thought I would throw my thoughts into the ring. I’ll take your word the color is correct against the Setra, it certainly looks like it in the picture. I think finding other models in the line up with an identical color is important when trying to figure these things out.

Rivet looks good.

The other prepro models of the 19A I have seen have lacked the “Super-fast” text printed on the base under the engine. So, if it is a prepro it is not an early one, or it is simply a color trial.

I think I can see “resting marks” on the base where the paint appears to have dried when in contact with something. This is something that I have noticed on other prepro (and also Brazil) models and suggests a benchtop assembly.

The label almost looks tape like. It makes me wonder if this was simply applied from other packaging by a child and I am unsure if it was original to the car, but it could be.

I think it is likely a preproduction/color trial or perhaps a proposed promotional model that did not get distributed. Similar to the gold mini’s but seemingly more scarce. Of course, paint testing would be necessary to confirm this.

Looks like a great one!

It could have been thrown into a normal #19 box and shipped to a random store like any standard example if surplus to the program which it was made for. I will look our a yellow #34 racer to see if paint matches -the brightness is a perfect match for the Setra, will take a comparison photo tomorrow if weather good......

Thanks Jeff! The chip company graphics seem nothing like rust on yellow although the donut company is close -the colours of custard + donut! . Thinking about the Cal connection for the factory approved hobby shop Herbies, perhaps the same Bronner rep was behind a run of racers was the regarded as a good way to launch an upmarket donut brand in 1971.........
