11a Esso Tanker in absurd orange colour
Re: 11a Esso Tanker in absurd orange colour
kwakers highjacked the thread as usual Johnboy! I am sure Antonin will not mind re-living such a rare colored green Bus that is related to his odd orange 11A Tanker painted at the Lesney factory. I was going to start a new thread concerning the green Bus, but the Forum's 'Caveman' saved the 2 part Post, but could not find the saved post to then split in two. I gave up, then Posted the whole thing hoping Antonin might enjoy the ramblings of a madman.
That link is perfect Johnboy, Thank You! But, I think it is possibly a third or fourth example. The picture Numi sent me was of a very rough used one without any box. She may still have that picture for us when she pops in again. I had encouraged her to buy that one, or any condition model of that rarity. It may have been too late? She has an interest in only rarities that are Mint, but hopefully she has now begun to understand how rare some historic Lesney examples are in ANY condition. kwakers

Re: 11a Esso Tanker in absurd orange colour
We had a long discussion of the green 5a Bus on the old forum.
I think we ended up with it probably being a colour trial to test the Sydney market since their busses were (and maybe still are) green. If I recall correctly, we arrived at a total of six known, to which I added another six to account for those in older collections held by non-Internet savvy collectors. Assuming a survival rate of some 10 - 15% then yielded a likely original batch quantity of one gross (=144 = 12 x 12, i.e. a dozen dozen).

I have had this model (on left) for several years. It is a very similar color per the discussion, but absent the decal..............

Is there any evidence of it being orange over red, or is it just a single coat of orange?durangokid wrote:I have had this model (on left) for several years. It is a very similar color per the discussion, but absent the decal..............

Nick, Thank you for letting me know. No worries -- I thought you were probably quite busy.nickjones wrote:Hi Bill. 2 of the models sent are now on display and quite nice! Debating about whether to put a replacement star decal on the 49A half-trac or leave as is............
Thanks again!! All the Best,
Bill
