By the time superfast wheels were coming out the Pontiac GP was a newer, sleaker body style in real life. The 64' (even though it was a 65' intro it is a model of the 64') was really pretty dated when compared to what Detroit was rolling out by then. Perhaps that helped in the decision to replace it so soon?
On a side note, I had a 64' GP for awhile. Great car with a whole lot of style. The transmission (called a "slimjim"), was a wonky bit though and when it went I didn't have the scratch to replace it. Ended up trading for a 66 Impala.
I had a 65' Pontiac Bonneville convertible also(the GP's bigger sister), miss that one also.

Thanks for the explanation, I guess sales of the GP must have been dropping off due to a six year old bodyshell, especially in the USA so mystery solved.

I would have been happy driving anything with a Pontiac badge on it.........so cool. The SF#22 Pontiac GP still has to be one of my favourite matchbox models.

There's a nice looking 34a (appears to be larger gpw) in a far from mint C box on ebay right now.

fintail wrote:Wow you're having a nice run, that 34a spw is another on my list. I have a long B box for 34a, but I already have a gpw model living in it :)

I saw a C box for 34a bring over $100 on ebay.
Thanks, fintail. I'd pay $130.00 or a bit more for a "Mint" C box if I could find one. I'll be on the hunt for one...so if anyone has one for sale let me know.

Thanks

I have been a lucky one in that respect. In the past 25 years or so I have owned well over 150 cars, mostly old american iron, with a couple dozen VW's tossed in. Lots of 60's and 70's cars were pretty cheap when I was going through them in the 80's and 90's. Big cars like 60's Impalas were less in demand then the smaller Chevelles and back in the day you could have a nice one for $500. (now 12k for the same car)
More than once I came home to a dark house because getting a car was more important then the light bill. Thankfully my wife is very tolerant.

Hi all, just got these today :D the SF22 is the dark purple and is vnmt, the 46A, one is the 9.5 X 20 GPW code 10 the other has 9 X 36 BPW B-casting and A-silver trim I don't see a code for it in my Stannard (Bible) and last the 39B 9 X 24 GPW code 12 and the very near mint 59B and the mint D-type box (and it's not the same one I showed before)

Alex, BTW I'm sitting here staring at my D-purple pontiac and drinking a cold one. :D :D :D :D :D :D
