If these blisters are original and sealed, that would suggest to me that they are in fact code 2 issues as opposed to codes 1 or 3. IMHO

At the back of the French blister of a generic issue, it said "Printed… in England". Which means the blister cardboard paper was printed in England. If it were code 2, it would mean that the unpacked blister materials and loose cars were sent to France and then packed and sealed in France. But i thought the general practice was that they were packed and sealed in England before sending to France, weren't they? Could you share the basis for your code 2 suggestion?

Ritchie my Code 2 theory would be based on the assumption that these were packaged in England in their blister packs and thereafter exported.

I assume that these French blisters were packaged in Lesney factory. And just to clarify, Code 2 means that "the labels were applied outside Lesney factory by an independent 3rd party but this action was authorized by Lesney". So your code 2 theory would suggest that, it's either (1) after applying the labels, the models were taken back to Lesney factory for packaging or (2) the independent 3rd party got the loose cars as well as unused French packaging materials from Lesney, applied the labels and did the packaging, and then shipped to the hotel.
Does it make sense? May be (2) is what you have in mind?

In another thread on the #39 Silver Shadow II, I mention Two types of 'PAT No.' design. What this relates to is the actual casting of the letters that make the word 'PAT' and 'No.' on the rear section of the baseplate.
The picture below has captured the Two types with the normal type on the left model and the flat type on the right model and flat in this instance means the profile of the letter's bulk, it looks as if they have been flattened under pressure in a machine.

Both types can be found on brand new models at the same time, so in my own collection I have a model number 1 (with normal 'PAT No.'), and model number 1A (with the flat 'PAT No.'), and this is repeated through the rest of the colour issues on this model.

Many thanks for showing the "Pat no." types. Didn't notice it before. So the 2 baseplate castings were used simultaneously I suppose this implies.

Left : Lighter metallic magenta body, with early base showing "Superfast". Wondering if this specific shade can also be found with "Rola-matics".

Hi Oliver thats a lovely pair and thanks for showing The light magenta with Superfast base has to be the rare pre-production model and as depicted on Christians site.

you guys dont have the #39 ford tractor posted...while its a regular wheel and never turned into a SF...it was part of the line...just like the #61 alvis stalwart that i think someone counted in the listing in the thread
