I tried that and found that it only shows "new posts" for a limited time. If too much time has gone by, a post you haven't read will no longer show up as new. It's very easy to miss a bunch of posts using that method.

Think Kwakers is referring to another Mick Joe. Like my site on MOYS etc , a lot do not post and just read. We have many Europeans on site who do not have a great grasp of English but can translate with the likes of Google if they see a pic of something that interests them. I found this out when I did a 'force reapplication' on a lot of non posting members who all wanted to stay onboard.
This plus the fact we are getting older and younger collectors go for what they grew up with which wasn't Regular wheel models but Superfast etc. and a lot of collectors want one of a model, not multiple minor shade differences as it works out to expensive for them on limited budgets.

Times change and your board has to change with it or stagnate - is this why we go into such detail, trying to keep discussion alive and keep it all going.

Co-incidently Gavin ( and i say this in the hope that you will no longer feel as lonely as i do sometimes), my 2 year old daughter kept me up all last night crying constantly, and i was up at 5 am for a long 10 hour shift with no break!!! and when i came home tonight my 5 year old son decided to break his bed frame by jumping on it, i didn't get my dinner until 9 pm and its was medium hot/cold left overs from the kids dinner earlier, and my wife has retired to bed with a headache........again!!!! (thank f**k!!!! ;) ) .

God bless them all!!

Primary focus here is minor production variations which has less appeal to increasing proportions of diecast collectors who increasingly are multibrand rather than just Lesney collectors..........
Forums like this will never die out completely as long as there are some people like me around who would rather attack themselves with a hammer than join FB. I prefer my inbox free of spam and my PC free of viruses......
I'm sure there will always be people who read and don't post, and speaking as a relative novice here, it can be a bit daunting starting to post on a forum where it is so obvious that there are a lot of members with a lot of knowledge. I don't object to looking a bit daft sometimes so I'll post away regardless, and sometimes these posts attract little or no response but it would never put me off.

Gavin - The Guy in particular is lovely (I prefer the green ones) and here's an example of my knowledge - I'd forgotten all about the rear bumper variation - congratulations :D
- My daughter is 17, sometimes I'd love her to be a screaming 2 year old again...........

Mick (SMS88) seems to have become something of an evangelist for Facebook, to the detriment of this forum - which I consider to be a real pity.

Having just spent a few hours at Facebook looking for the wonderful groups that Mick is promoting I was very disappointed. I found a few, to be sure, but those that are open are mostly filled with show and tell posts - with a lot more show than tell. I saw little discussion, and perhaps more importantly, no themed discussions like you get on a forum. Everything seems random and rather frenetic.

I have no real problem with Facebook. I belong to several groups myself (on other subjects) but none of them try to be replacements for forums - which still very much have their unique individual place.

If all I wanted to do was to show off my latest acquisitions or post pictures of random Matchbox cars, I guess one of the Facebook groups I have seen would be fine. But I have no real interest in that (unless showing pictures is part of a bigger discussion). If that's what the members of such groups enjoy, then good on them. It doesn't float my boat, but I can live with it floating theirs!

Of course, there may be closed groups on Facebook that are quite different, where people like to have intelligent discussions (as we do here for the most part) rather than post endless pictures and empty soundbites of text. But as they are closed I won't know without joining them and that's a step into the dark I'm not currently bothered enough to take.

The numbers posting here may have dwindled a little since the forum moved, but the quality of discussion hasn't.

I'll stay here and support Nick's excellent work for as long as he'll have me!

I choose to opt out of Facebook.

In this day and age, things come and go out of fashion very quickly. I suppose it's always been like that though. Give it 5 years and Facebook will have faded - it will still have a hardcore of fans and users, but one day something "better" will come along and the next generation will jump on board.

I'm happy just hanging here really, and Martin is dead right that the quality of posts here is not slipping.

Sometimes I can't resist showing off a couple of my pride and joys, and nice feedback is always appreciated...

As for my wee girl - straight to sleep without fuss tonight! Alex - it's good to know I'm not alone! Still love her to bits too...

Cheers,
Gavin

After 4 years on FB I cancelled my account. FB is a crap place that I now despise. The time wasted on useless braindead info will make you think that you are on top, but the truth is that when I resigned I found out that it was a time killer that took away valuble time from my real life. So I will always stick to forums like this.

I still think that in order to read this forum in full lenght you schould have a login.

Have a nice day

I agree with all that this Forum is where I will stay. I have never felt it wasted even a moment of my life over the last 5 years. I am not a Facebook or Twitter user, and I may never be. I will devote my time to helping those here on Nick's site as they come and go through both their stages of life, and also their collecting diecasts. Nick brought me back after a 10 year absence, and now I owe that incentive to others as I can......
I believe we are all still intrigued with finding hidden details on models in our 'Near Complete' collections, LOL! Mike Stannard proved to me in 1985 that there was life after the limits of the NAMC and AIM Guides, and the works and knowledge of Christian, Nick, George, Martin, Tinman Joe, and ALL other friends and Forum contributors continue fascinating we collectors worldwide. We older collectors may discuss the same topics several times over the years with youngsters, but the beauty of age is that they are always a bit 'New' to us with our limited memories. Antonin's 'Kid' Post reminded me of my early years in collecting when Bronner's people would answer your letters personally, and even provide unused treads for the earliest Matchbox Tractors 10 years after they were discontinued. Young and old, whatever we collect, this Forum is tops for it's people qualities. The information we can find here is open to all, but that is only secondary. Where else can you find such a mixture of characters like all of us online?
Tinman, I have vowed in the past to correct some damnable errors by Postnet and get those Stannards out to both you and John, NOW is the time! With 2 days a week off plus weekends, I have no excuse. I want them to be 'PERFECT', and that is my personality flaw from a past engineering career. I have even relocated my 1972 Superfast section of the NAMC for Mick SMS that may prove of great interest in sorting out some interesting early wheel details.
Yesterday was plumbing in the house all day, but the next two days are driving. Our local Toy Show in Albany, New York is Saturday all day, Yipee!! Moyboy is not the RW Australian collector we are missing. The Mick I was referring to Joe had some unique Lesney displays (An original of the 3 car New Model display I think), and I have a mind block on his last name this A.M. Off to drive the Lorry and pick up Tyres again, Cheers! kwakers
