You could still drive it while taking a dump lolBroughton wrote:I think it's nice, and while driving, you can use the motorheat for cooking and you also can reach anything, because it's short enough

Re: Show us all your old real cars and vans..
Hi Guys.
Here are my REAL Car and Van, the Split Screen Camper Van from 1964 and the Beetle from 1966 and the Portafold Caravan from 1973.
Got the van for over 12 years now and loving it, everywhere we go heads are turning and cameras are coming out.
One day we heared banking against the camper van in the early morning on a campsite and there was a child happy slapping the front of the van and trying to lick it I think,
The Beetle has been my daily runner for about 5 years until the winters where a bit heavy in 2010 then I desided to buy an dold golf (2.0 GTI) and drive that in Winter and the Beetle in Summer, great idea.
My Golf GTI was from 1995, and the Bay Window Camper I have owned for 7 years is from 1974...

Re: Show us all your old real cars and vans..
Very nice VW caravanette. Very valuable and expensive to buy nowadays. I once owned the type 3 VW, but that will be my third story.
My second motorhome was a true English one : a Ford Transit with a CI Travelhome body. I purchased it in Belgium when I was working in the south of Holland near the Belgium border.
It was cheap, and later I found out why : it used almost as much motoroil as petrol. I always carried a few gallon tins of oil with me.
I converted it to run also on LPG to keep running costs low. Later in 1978 when I was working in London for about 7 months, I had the engine replaced by a reconditioned one.
I had to drop the van in the morning and could pick it up the same evening. In fact I had to pick it up the same day as the garage owner said it would not be safe to leave it outside his garage overnight. That did not sound very promising, but they did a great job and for 500 GBP you cannot complain. Later on I had an overdrive installed which was not such a great success. After a few years I decided to sell it on and go for another motorhome, the already mentioned VW. But that will be the the next story.
Regards Hans

Really cool, Alex.. nice to see the Beetle and Camper together like that! The Camper's two-tone purple is well groovy, it must be a sweet ride when you're inside!!
Cheers,
Ken

Thanks Ken, yeah, I'm always smiling from ear to ear when I drive our campervan, my Beetle is parked in the garden for a few years now, still waiting for a little repair by ... ahum ...me!matchbox360 wrote:Really cool, Alex.. nice to see the Beetle and Camper together like that! Very wise, I ruined my 66 split playing silly buggers in the surf at Skewjack many years ago. It was a lot of fun but the van rusted so bad it was not repairable, But I stripped it down and sold the parts at the bug jam and was very surprised how much money it raised.Alexdundee wrote: The camper only comes out the garage on nice days!

When's the last time one of these was seen on the roads? (not mine, but I think it's an interesting and classic vehicle!)
