I saw these crosses on the Flyers.
With the red and white color scheme I'm thinking it's more WW I / Baron von Richtoven / Fokker triplane looking (?)

Here's another vehicle I was lucky enough to bop around in for several months when I was younger. I'm really hoping to own one some day.

These trucks were amazing. They had power takeoffs in the back to run farm implements and there was even an articulated swivel frame model that allowed the cab and the bed to rotate in opposite directions in really uneven terrain. It's amazing that something so functional can be so minimally beautiful.

Hi Mike & Nico, the 'Blaupunkt' van looks a bit 'Kaput' to me! :D

Best of luck for 2014! Cheers, Ken

Mike,
This is gorgeous. You should make a poster out of it.

Interestingly, the blue van I posted was US Ford's answer to the VW microbus. VW's vans really started catching on in the US in the early 60's so all the American big three auto makers came out with passenger vans to keep pace.
I am in Kentucky, and very familiar with those series of vans. There was a fella who would come to the local flea market once or twice a week in a red Ford van with "Horse Cave Fire Dept" hand lettered on the sides of it. Truck had around 15k miles on it when he got the thing. Total time machine as it was only 2 years ago that he was driving it around. I offered to trade a nice Chevy extended cab truck for it even up but he was too smart to fall for it.

Kbean beat me to it. WW1 "red baron" theme. Would not even think about a WW2 theme unless it was OD green with white stars on the doors. I'm pretty sure they still lynch folks out here in the country.

Was it a Falcon Econoline like the one I posted?

I'm in Kansas and have a friend who had a '65 Dodge Van. He used to bring it every year to a local bluegrass festival and it made a great camping vehicle, in addition to looking very retro cool.

About the only thing cooler than the mid-60s Fords and Dodges were the rear-engined Chevy vans. Built on a Corvair chassis I believe and quite stylish if you have a 2-tone model.

Yeah, that's a really good idea, Kevin. There's a sad, primordial beauty to this.. the way nature has claimed it back for herself. Well appreciated!

Cheers, Ken
