The Beales font is very thick compared to mine and the few I've seen on this site and Nick's example on his variation page, were these produced with differing fonts or is this an illusion in the photo?

Yes I bought the Beales Van with replacement decal on one side per the seller, who was out of the UK. No problem he informed me before I purchased it. Still at $250 it was a good deal at least in my opinion. This was about 3-years ago.

Thank's Terry. You will have seen from the several pictures of your Opel Diplomat that we are puzzled how it became part of the G-2 gift set. We know that colour version of the Opel was in the G-2 Set, but the example you have been showing us appears to have a baseplate not made in the Lesney factory, there are detail differences which really are strange leading us to believe the model is a fake, so I hope you never paid a fortune for it as it may well turn out to be worthless, always nice to have so at least it represents a rare version but not if it cost a lot of Money. Are you now aware of this model's baseplate not being quite what it should be against an earlier picture I posted of as far as we know a genuine Grey plastic baseplate, especially as I posted another picture from a different source of another baseplate made by someone we know who makes them, what do you think?

Yea no problems like I said I didn't pay but $250 for the set anyway, I think the set alone with a gold one is worth that. I don't plan selling and it displays cool.

The other cars in the set can't be removed because of the original cellophane, the Opel could be removed so that was always on my mind, the guy who had it passed so the mystery remains with him. His family was selling it at a flea market. Took a chance. Like I said though it displays cool.

How come there are differences with Nick and Stannards regarding certain models? I.e. Land Rover, Cougar, etc. I've seen pictures of the Cougar yellow with a patent # some not. Charley Mack, says no #30 metal wheels in blue, I know mine is legit with metal wheels. Stannards says yes with metal wheels, Nick says maybe. Oh well.

Thank's for the background to the G-2 set, it would be nice to find another better example of the Opel to put back in the set, as it would surely reward you from the overall price it could realize, however, there can't be that many loose examples left out there for us to discover and then at a manageable price!
I believe Nick's code listing was based on Stannard's, but now with a bigger collecting base at his disposal through the forum members, Nick has added more variations than what you see in Stannard's which as far as I know was not updated from the first issue, I don't have a copy, but I am not aware of any later editions, only reprints of the original.

Sorry for being a little bit picky here, but the corner where the Opel sits seems to be the only corner where the cellophane is not torn open - so it would not be easy to replace that particular model (let alone to be the only car that can be replaced in the set at all).
But probably the cellophane is open under the corner, so you can lift it up (I can't tell from the picture)......

Reg, my cream Cougar has the pat. App # and the patent # on it. It is a bit play worn and was a freebie in a lot of cars I purchased. I don't think that Nicks listing is complete, as yet.
