Just received the Silver Dawn by Oxford Diecast:

I do especially like the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn, before I got my Silver Shadow II, it was on a shortlist of real Rolls-Royce cars I would seriously consider buying so I adore toys and models of it. So pleased Oxford have now released theirs even if all they have done is put a grille on the recent Bentley.


I don't like critizing new models especially those from Oxford, we should give them all the encouragement we can to continue making 43rd scale examples of these fine cars, but with something as important as the grille and mascot, I do wish they could pay more attention to real cars and do a proper rendition.

The Silver Dawn is quite distinctive as being a comparitively small Rolls-Royce and the kneeling Lady mascot adds to the look of the car, so Oxford have tried to make a similar Lady but seemed to have not got it right as it is far too big!

The air-vents under the headlamps need to be repositioned so the centre line is upright, not leaning over. I am sure I could list others but the budget for these models has to be considered and in that respect (retails for around £25 in the UK), it is a good model and I eagerly await adding one to my collection.

The Silver Dawn looks very smart, although it does look like there may have been some confusion at the factory a to how those front vents should be fitted!

I saw Taff from Oxford at a recent event, and he told me that they had made new tooling for this, rather than just using the Bentley casting. I don't have the Silver Dawn yet, but looking at photos the bonnet sides are certainly different.

Oxford are producing some great models at very reasonable prices, and I wish they made more 1/43 cars.

I wonder how far this new tooling really went because the rear wing and spat design does still look like their Bentley, but you can see the bonnet profile as it reaches the grille seems quite flat.

They make a nice pair. What differences can you see on the body castings?

The flatter bonnet ends where they meet the grill and no visible shut line down the side implying the side panel goes much further down towards the front wing, whereas the Bentley has a shut line simulating a shallow panel here.
