Britains Lilliput Tractor with a bit of embellishment

That Talbot now looks very displayable and with the other models you show, like the Lilliput Tractor (a rarely seen brand), that job lot turned out OK.

The Brown / Green Guy has finally arrived.





Here you go Chris, the comparative shots.....The brown is very similar, if not the same, as the relatively common brown high sided wagon.

Interesting comparison. Do we know the 'Time-Line' of the Two dark Red/Brown models, are there casting faults and surface abrasions common between the Two models, if there are, these could well have been made and sprayed very close to each other during production and the dirty spray nozzle theory is good.

Both the alike Browns are Early cab variants, with rear axles clips. The red cab version in the pictures above is the only 2nd type cab, see at the bottom of the cab front the triangular chassis tab supports compared to the straight up and down on the other cabs.

No doubt Chris can tell you timelines for the two types.

That's a really great one Dave. You're right the shade looks really close to the brown wagon shade, so it probably was meant to be that way.
The only nagging doubt pointing to it being a red or orange with corrupted paint is I would have expected a brown Guy to have black chassis and wings.

We know Dinky did a lot of making up of models out of older parts in store, so it's really impossible to timeline anything for certain!

However a rough timeline is :

1. Supertoy / no front webs / tin rear axle clips / black cab wings / none supertoy hubs.
2. Supertoy /no front webs / tin rear axle clips / body coloured cab wings / none supertoy hubs.
3. Supertoy /no front webs / cast axle supports / body coloured cab wings / none supertoy hubs.
4. Supertoy /no front webs / cast axle supports / body coloured cab wings / supertoy hubs.
5. Supertoy /front webs / cast axle supports / body coloured cab wings / supertoy hubs.
6. Dinky Toy /front webs / cast axle supports / body coloured cab wings / supertoy hubs.

The old Guy Vixen ended it's days as a mere Dinky Toy, and the new Guy Warrior started the same way, but was shortly promoted back to full Supertoy status!

BTW, the corrupted paint gun colour variation is pretty much validated as fact. It was told to the HRCA magazine many years ago. Workers were on piecework at Meccano, as were the quality control, cleaning out the paint vats / guns took downtime, so no one was paid for the time it took to change over between models at the end of a run. Therefore a close colour match ie blue / green or red / brown the new paint would simply be poured in with the old and given a good stir! Our beloved variations really were made this way!
