Which one in question, the Thompson model or the Wank model or both?
Just the Thompson model, the Wank model was not in question(for me) as you have said maybe a prototype and I feel that base is genuine.

The fact that what appears to be a prototype does not appear to show the same base defects as TNT's model would seem to bring the authenticity of the latter into serious doubt.

It also fails to compare with the early base for this model and would seem to be cast off the later common base.

I'll post another base photo, I have to do it at work tomorrow. Who is the Greek? I didn't pay much for the Transport set and I don't plan on selling it. As to the Opel if I got taken no big deal, like I said I didn't pay too much for it. This is why I like the forum though, lots of input.
VBD HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CONFIRM THE AUTHENTICITY OF ANY MODELS PICTURED IN POSTS BY TNT. THEREFORE, THE FACT THAT A PARTICULAR VARIATION IS DEPICTED DOES NOT PROVE THAT IT WAS EVER MANUFACTURED BY LESNEY, NO MATTER HOW AUTHENTIC IT MAY APPEAR.

The Greek is Nik Stil, see ebay listing (open and scroll down):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Matchbox ... 7675.l2557

The base on Stil's car is resin cast, as is the base on your car. The base on Stil's car's base mold was made using a later common base (as is the base on your car). The correct base for this model does not flush with the front of the car and has a protrusion where the base tab sticks through the front of the car. The base on the Thompson model and the base on the Stil model match. Both are resin cast and both are cast from a later common base which is incorrect for the rare green variation.

The Frankie Flemming model (shown below) has the correct base (note the shape of the base at the front of the model). This early base transitioned into a metal base with the same shape & text only to be modified again to the shape of the base on the Thompson model, the Stil model and every common model made since.

Example of early and late metal bases (early metal base on right matches the plastic base)

Ergo, the Diplomat shown by Mr. Thompson is indeed a very well done Fake. No need to bother with paint testing on this model, it simply can't be real because it has a base that didn't exist when the variation was produced by Lesney.

I did not need to as all the sales were presented in a line from top to bottom, but now on looking I see the same page as linked for us on page 10 by "mboxmike" so not sure what's going on, might delete these few posts to prevent further confusion.

Here is my largest version of the Alan Wank Opel.

Image
To me this looks correct with a surface finish typical of a component produced by the plastic injection moulding method. It has the 'Tab' at the front of the baseplate as pointed out by "nearlymint".

Here is possibly the source of the so called 'Resin' baseplates.

Image
Note the towing guides on both bases and no front 'Tab'. The towing guides were probably ground away on the donar base.

Here is that same base from the above picture.

Image
This model was described as a repaint in the style of the rare 'Pre-Pro' Opel Diplomat with plastic base and this base is similar to the base on "TNT's" model.
