Motorman, do you remember which ones you had?
I had a grandma in England and she sent out my first set when I was 4. I still have a couple of pieces left from it. It was SF-3 Curve and space leap set. I remember the track joiners all broke, so they must have been the first issue ones (before April 1970) so my dad made me some aluminium ones. These were great as we made some extra long ones and bent them in to as sort of z shape to make a jump in the middle of the track.

I remember my brother got the Ring of fire play set. Hours of fun!
