I agree Pete, the heat in the UK is somewhat tiresome on our fragile bodies. There is also the health issues some may suffer if they are exsposed for too long without any preperations.

Re: Some Hot Weather On Its Way!
In the Dutch village Gilze-Rijen, the national weather institute , today, measured 38.8 degrees just before 3 p.m. With that, the old heat record of 38.6 degrees of August 23, 1944 in the Dutch village of Warnsveld fell after 75 years !
Later on today in the Dutch city of Eindhoven the temperature was even higher at 39,3 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow the magic temperature of 40 degrees is expected. We never had that before in our country.
In The Netherlands they started to measure temperature by an official institute many many years ago and today is the heat record sofar. Where will this end ?
First Dutch temperature measurements
The Italian prince Cosimo de Medici traveled to the Low Countries in those years and took his Forentine thermometer with him. For example, measurements have been preserved that were taken in Amsterdam between December 19, 1667 and January 7, 1668. This is the first measurement series in our country. Diaries show that there must have been a kind of thermometer on the town hall in Delft as early as 1621. The stand is said to have been kept by councilors. However, the data has disappeared.
The Amsterdam doctor Nicolaes Janszoon van Wassenaar took temperature measurements between 1622 and 1630. This series, too, apart from a few numbers, has disappeared. Measurements from the Zeeland Isaac Beeckman, who was the first to have a weather station in Dordrecht in the years 1627-1637, were also lost. In 1697 and 1698 measurements were taken in our country by Leiden professor Wolferd Senguerd.
Nicolaus Cruquius
In 1705, hydraulic engineer and cartographer Nicolaus Samuelis Cruquius began measuring temperature, air pressure, moisture and precipitation three times a day in Delft. He was convinced of the usefulness of meteorological observations to determine how our country could be protected against the impending violence of the sea, storm, and rain.
In 1725 he applied to the then government, the States of Holland, for financial support. His application was rejected because he was not taken seriously. More than a century later, Buys Ballot made a similar request. The KNMI was established as a result of this.
Zwanenburg measurements
From 1735, meteorological measurements were taken at 'Huize Swanenburgh' in Zwanenburg. These are actually the first professional measurements made by the water managers. Because there is an overlap with the measurements in Utrecht on the Sonnenborgh, it is possible to make one long series that now covers almost three centuries. The Zwanenburg-Utrecht-De Bilt series is used internationally for climate research.
