Sorry Rod, a lot of scale modellers use this material. The plasticard is sheets of plastic A4 size or larger and comes in various thicknesses which is great for building items for models.

I use plasticard and it should be fairly easy to build something very similar to the self centreing hitch you show in your last picture. The corgi toys Silver Ghost in the picture below has a lot of white plasticard for the main body, wings, grille centre and parts of the steering components.
