I'll third what JP and George had to say about Stannard. It is essential, regardless of how good and useful Nick's site is. I also think there are other useful guides out there, and almost every Matchbox related book I have is useful, even Mack. There is one other essential Matchbox publication not yet mentioned in this thread - the 40 Years book, which is stunning to look at and beautifully written. It is a perfect complement to Stannard, and still somewhat easier to come by.
