BPG hello and welcome to the site.I also dont like the idea of printing boxes but as you say if its for your own nostalgia I dont personaly see the problem...A friend of mine 16 years back had his 50th birthday coming up and I restored a Dinky Leyland tanker for him [no dowt he would have been happy with the Atlas one but they where in the future]as we both got them for our 8th birthdays back in 1958 and coincidently from the same shop in Cheetham Hill Manchester.Obviously I needed a box and bought a perfect replica from Bob[BBRB] in Bolton.I am sure many people on here have had dealings with him..I know that Dinky is now spirited away and will never see the light of day again for hopefully many years but if it does it will take a bit of restoring again to rid it of its Posidrive screws and -Restored fake- writen inside the box....Good luck with the printer I use a Canon and its hopeless some sometime you just need a cheap representative of a sticker or whatever and its good for that....Realy you cant go wronge at £30 from Tesco.....

When our old printer broke last autumn, we bought an Epson ET-4500 with large ink tanks that you fill from bottles - big enough for 4000 pages, apparently, and under £40 to fill them all up again for another 4000 pages. The downside, of course, is that the printer itself was much more expensive but I think it should work out cheaper in the long term (I'll let you know in a few years!). It's surprisingly good at high quality photos and it handles thick paper really well.

Sounds good I might look into one of those cheers.

If there is a fake on Ebay we have a tread with 50+ posters that we should NOT buy from him and now we write all kind of details how to print fake boxes.

This is a collectors site !

Marcel, there is a big difference between discussing a well faked rare variation, establishing a proper chain of evidence to confirm that a model being presented to other members is indeed a fake and discussing printing repro boxes and different printers. I have yet to be fooled by any repro box and that is unlikely to change and most collectors and members here would also be able to differentiate between an old vintage Lesney box and a newly printed one imho.

I think you are also being a little unfair on BPG who has already stated that he has a large collection therefore making him a collector in my book, so maybe we should be encouraging our new member to show his collection and not get too focused on his intention to try to print repro boxes.

I agree with Alex, especially since BPG has stated that his boxes will be endorsed with the word REPRODUCTION.

This is indeed a collector's site...and some collectors do enjoy restored and customized die-cast and reproduction boxes. Though I'm not much into them, by and large I see no reason those collectors who enjoy them should not be allowed to do so. Restorations, customs, and reproductions only become a problem when they are falsely presented as original with a demonstrable intent to deceive. BPG, in marking his boxes with the word "reproduction," has demonstrated a clear lack of intent to deceive. Reproduction decals and labels are typically easy to pick out even in a bad photo. Many other examples of the shysters' handiwork are not as easily recognized.

We are better off educating ourselves and calling out the bad apples in this hobby than lambasting a fellow collector who's only pursuing happiness.

I got a chuckle out of that. It sure would be nice if all of my cats were in agreement at all times!

Returning to topic: consensus seems to be that H-P and Canon printers, regardless of their other products, aren't great. Sharp doesn't seem to produce printers suited to the home. A smaller Lexmark could potentially work well in the home, but might be a little too pricey. Can anyone recommend a good range of printers for the home user? Most of us appear to use inkjet printers, but has anyone used another type to print decals? I'm especially interested to hear what sort of results a laser printer would yield.

I bought a laser and the special decal paper for a laser printer. It produced lesser quality decals (and labels) than all of the ink jets I've had. Some specific graphics were so bad that I was just wasting decal paper. When the (expensive) toner ran out, I sent the printer to the recycle center. Seems you have to spend the big bucks to get a laser printer with resolutions that are as good as (or better) an inkjet.

still no photos of the collection from this 1st time poster !
Doesn't matter if your models are not mint.
Just post some photos of the items you collect so that we do know you are not 1 of the people who are faking boxes and sell them on swap meets and on Ebay.
