Thanks for all the comments. This is the last set of pics I will post. After a little cleaning of some dirt around the decal areas and a couple of tiny pieces of decals removed here is what the decal areas look like.
Y-6 A.E.C. Y-Type Lorry
Re: Y-6 A.E.C. Y-Type Lorry
I note that the bonnet catches have been trimmed. Would that be consistent with a duck-egg blue original?
Re: Y-6 A.E.C. Y-Type Lorry
Early models got the full trim so bonnet catches would have been done. The gold on the radiator is also consistent being patchy looking as it seemed to come away and not adhere very well. I checked my one out and on one side there is a section of decal line missing at the top (about a centimetre) and there is no dark stain where the line had once been. I got the loupe out and discovered something I had not seen before - at some time in the past the decal has slipped down as I can see the shading of the decal in the place it was originally - it has moved down around 2 mm. Whether someone has replaced a damaged one in the past I don't know but it is the side with the bit of line missing but is an actual original decal.
Nowhere on my model can I see any hint of the greenish looking shade like the base left hand side on this one so I'm going with sunfade. I did buy one from an auction house here in Oz a while back and had to return as sunfaded which was easily seen inside the cab area although the rest seemed blue on one side really good and not so the other , a slightly off blue similar to the base on this one.

Re: Y-6 A.E.C. Y-Type Lorry
Because of all the doubts and speculation about these models whenever they turn up, I would never add one to my collection, and I know of other major collectors that feel the same. Even very expensive paint testing has been carried out on some of these to try and prove/disprove their validity. I'm not sure if this can determine the original shade of paint, or just the age of the paint because of the constituents used to make it. If only the latter, it's still no proof of shade origin.
At the end of the day, buyers will make up their own mind.
Remember the example sold by Rockertron some time ago. Listed as a possibly faded model, it still made many hundreds of GBP on the day.

Re: Y-6 A.E.C. Y-Type Lorry
With Y-6(1) Lorry having a production run from 1957 to 1961 and the Y-5(1) Bentley having a production run from 1956 to 1962, both were in production at the same time and both are likely to have been painted with paint from the same supplier. Are we looking at a faulty batch of paint which easily deteriates after exposure to the elements such as daylight and the Sun.
A version of the Bentley fades to a shade of Blue, some examples looking quite consistant even in areas not easily exposed and with the Lorry in this thread appearing to fade to a shade of Blue, there must be some connection and the connection seems to be the type of paint used.
