Thanks. I'll take a look at the sticky.

Could you take a guess at value? I really am clueless to their value to be honest.

I was looking on eBay and thought a couple might be worth £2-300 with the rest maybe £20-£50 depending on condition.

I may be wrong here (Chris, please correct me if I am), but I believe the value of pre-war models is seriously dependent on the amount of 'fatigue' present. (This is expansion and cracking of the casting caused by impurities migrating to the crystal boundaries and precipitating out. It works in a similar way to rust forcing components apart.)

Hi Hugh,

That's right "fatigue" can seriously reduce the price of a Pre War Dinky. Having said that, Pre War numbers are so reduced that a damaged Pre War is probably still worth as much, if not more than, a mint Post War of which there are hundreds out there. Especially if it's a colour scheme not released after the war.

One of the reasons I'm not sure how many of these models are actually Pre War is that fatigue seems to be conspicuous by it's absence. The axles are the only way to tell for sure.

Having said that even if they are all early Post War there are still some very desirable models here.

I'd like to find out if these were bought when originally released, or later in their life?

Cheers

They were all bought when he was a child. He is 80 this year. I'll speak to him tomorrow to be 100% sure. His memory isn't as good as it was but he remembers these with fondness. Think that's the big kid in him still. Lol

From what I remember before, he said a family member worked in one of the shops that stocked them and used to put one aside for him each time a new one came in.

Would close up pictures of any or all be something you guys would like to see?

Hi, It's always good to know they are still with their original owner!

I'd like to see some close ups of the 30 and 36 series cars please? If you could show the wheels and axles / base that would really help me put a more accurate date on them for you.

There's no one to ask who made these now, so the only way to get some idea of when changes were introduced is to study the cars in detail. It really helps me when a lot like yours comes up and is very original.

You're right about the boxes by the way, the early models only came in trade boxes of 4 or 6, very collectible they are too nowadays.

I'll try and post the pictures tomorrow at some time.

Sadly some of them the tyres have gone 'flat' where they've been sat in the boxes. I don't think they've seen light for maybe 40 years. Lol

He said some of the boxes they're stored in are trade boxes. They don't have any stickers or print on them though.

He said he was always really careful when playing with them. The Foden tank one has barely got a mark on it. It looks pretty much new.

Hi,
Yes please, let us have a look at the boxes too. Ebay really isn't much of a guide to be honest unless you know exactly which model you have, and even then it's a total lottery that depends solely on who looks at what and when. Rare stuff can go for peanuts and total junk for a fortune.
