I think you're probably right about the tracks being changed. However, it is interesting that mine, Brad's and the one without quotation marks pictured here http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk ... /xx16d.htm all have black tracks. Mine has 26 treads, not 25, and is noticeably thinner than the green tracks on this other 16d (bought entirely separately, so not swapped between these two). Is the black 26 tread track from a later 16d or are these 25 tread as listed in Nick's guide?

There is also a real good possibility you are looking at tracks/treads that have nothing to do with Lesney and were made in the last 20 or so years by a spare parts supplier. Replacement tracks/treads can be obtained from several sources and the come in green and black.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

You’re right, of course - these have probably been switched or replaced. The no quotes base does seem to be very scarce - I have number 4, Dan has number 2, and Nick shows a picture of number 1. I think Christian must have one or more too. Anyone else?

I probably have 25 - 30 of these in bins packed away. Next time I get them out, I'll try to remember to search for that variation.

That would be great - thanks!

I've noticed that the no quotes base has been discussed before. In 2013 Numi showed a picture of base 4 with a casting defect at the rear, and Jason had bases 2 and 4 without quotes. That makes 5 examples plus the base 1 that's on the main site. I'm sure other people must have them too. Please look!
