You have to think, somewhat, outside the box. Don't feel bad, you made the common mistake that many people do when taking quiz. In this case, the error was to make the assumption that the only possible axle could be one holding a wheel. Axles are used to hold on other things (lots of other things).

They hold on dumper & tipper beds, tipper boxes, crane hooks, front end loader scoops, Some Kingsize models use them to secure many (if not all) of their moving parts. The machines that secure the ends of those other axles are the same machines that secure wheels on the axles.

Based on this definition was it appropriate that Tinman used the word "axle" in his initial querry? Are we counting the cement drum as the wheel for this axle? Perhaps it was a trick question as Motorman has suggested!

I think Joe was asking about the last model to have a crimped-axle end, rather than the last model to have a crimped axle-end.

Actually it was..."axle end crimped", allowing the rod to be placed anywhere within the model and by applying the word 'Axle', Joe knew we would all understand what he wanted us to look for, a rod which in most situations is used for axles but which could and does get used for other functions on the model, it that clear...

If you answered an AXLE, you are correct.

However, this is the axle rod that held on the bucket (shovel or scoop) onto a 43b Aveling Barford tractor shovel. It is not an axle that held wheels on a Matchbox model. The part is still an axle, regardless of how it's used. I took concrete reinforcement steel (known as Rebar here in the US), I bent and welded it to make a roll cage for a portable generator. The Rebar was used to make a roll cage (and not used to reinforce concrete), but it's still Rebar.

Another quiz: You work in a fruit shipping plant that packs apples and oranges. The fruit comes in three different boxes, 1 is labeled Apples, 1 is labeled oranges and the 3rd is labeled Apples & Oranges. Today, all three boxes were mixed up and all three labels are incorrect for the contents.

I want you to tell me which fruit is in which box without opening them. To help you, I will open one box of your choice and show you one piece of fruit from that box. Which box (i.e. with which label) would you like me to open and show you 1 piece of fruit? And, (to make it even easier to understand) NO, you cannot see the contents of the box I choose except for the one peice of fruit I pull out and hold up for you to see.

Clue: If you choose the right box, you will be able to tell me what friut (or combination of fruit) is in all three boxes.

When you finish that quiz, here is another:

You buy a ball and then a bat. The combined total (not including any tax) for the bat is one dollar more then the ball. You spent 1 dollar and ten cents total. How much did the ball cost?

Both of these questions are often given on job applications and help to determine aptitude and problem solving. Reading and understanding the question is key to solving the problem.

So I'd ask you to open the Apples and Oranges box (which is not what the contents actually is). Depending on the fruit you take out, that box is really the Apples or Oranges box. Say you take out an apple, then the box is really the apple-only box. There are two other boxes left, one says Oranges and one says Apples so the oranges must be in the apples box and the last box must have a mix (I think).
