Thank's Stephan, it is your Second picture that I wanted to see, clearly showing the inside (topside), of the Mercedes baseplate and the actual positioning of ejector circles.
The one resposible for making the hole was just out of adjustment and has stopped the moulten metal from flowing across the end of the post, leaving a perfectly neat hole, so no hard puncturing (Roland correctly mentioning something similar) as there is no evidence of distortion around the hole.
A good factory oops!
