Hi all,

it is kind of strange - if you go to the ticket details at the website provided, you can see the licence number of the car, but his full name is also listed.
I don't know which rental car company he used, but it looks like the only thing they did was telling his name to the city office.
After all they don't seem to care about the rest!

I had kind of the same problem a couple of years ago, when I went over a toll bridge through a "EZ Pass" lane in Upstate New York by accident, without having an EZ pass.
It took some weeks until my rental car company contacted me and asked me to pay the gouvernmental ticket and fee (via a gouvernmental website).
I was able to pay, as they accepted foreign credit card details. But I had to pay an additional fee to the rental car company for their involvement, but that was also easy.

Well, I'm in contact with Kurt - and probably he is able to help my friend.....
Thanks in advance!

Kay

international fees and fines can be a minefield
an example is the London congestion charge , payable by ALL vehicles that do not qualify for an exemption
but 150 countries do not pay for their embassy diplomatic cars as they regard it as a tax ( which in a way it is as it's compulsory ) owing £87 million the last amount i'm aware of
the 2 biggest culprits.....USA £9.5 million including the presidential car (I wonder if the President will be allowed back into the UK  ) and Japan £6.4 million
this is according to a London news paper

Apperently they have the same sort of trouble in New York City with all of the UN diplomatic missions, consulates etc. Diplomatic immunity means the diplomats and their staff feel free to park anywhere and not pay their traffic tickets!

Hi all,

yes, my friend's problem has been solved, the ticket is paid for, and the case is officially closed - thanks to Kurt and his help.
My friend is absolutely happy!!

In his earlier tries to find help, he had even been calling the US Embassy, as well as the German Departement of Foreign Affairs in Berlin - but they were not able to do anything at all!!

Thanks a lot again, Kurt!

It's good to know that VBD succeeds where even the US and German governments fail!

Members here at VBD have been very generous with their time, knowledge and even diecast. So I am very happy to be able to also assist a fellow member or a friend of a friend.

Sometimes (okay, Usually) bureaucracies can be (are) rigid and inpenetrable. If one doesn't fit an arbitrary profile then they can't work with you. If one does not know the magic word, the doors remain shut.
So it's great that we as individuals can help each other out.

Go team!
