For those who are unaware of the rarity of this colour variation here are images of my rare SF#42 with the standard production model. The colour differences are very obvious, the standard Fairy is on the left in the comparison shot.

Very nice example photos Alex, they clearly show the dark red transitional body as opposed to the subsequent lighter orange-red version, which incidentley can be found in a number of shades.

Might be a good time to mention that the transitional Fairy can be found with thin wheels and these can sell for more than the wider wheel version, however great care should be taken as these wheels are interchangeable with other models simply by popping off the axle clips on the base. I wouldn't pay any more for one of these, imho.

Here is photo showing wide and thin wheels as Alex mentions, photo also shows the different body colours as mentioned before.

Also thanks for showing such lovely SF models on the SF casting shows and i seriously had no incling that u were into SF models as well. Being bitten by the Sf bug is a great feeling isnt it?

ive been lucky to find these and not have to pay much for them...so if you see my post a new acquisition you know i got it cheap

i was a kid at the transition period between RW and SF...so i had some and i have a couple survivors...like the unimog i posted...i also have the ford GT and 55 police car sedan and wagon...some years ago i found a rotating display and bought a case full of SF models...one i was going for was the dons hobby shop herbie...it turns out most of that case has a bunch of minty SF transitional models...so i thought...why not collect the transitional models for the rotating display!

i dont really collect past the transitional era...unless i bought a lot of cars and some models past the transitional era were in with the lot...what i have always tried to do is get the earliest transitionals...some are common as they kept the RW color scheme fairly long...and some are very short runs...there are some i still need in the RW colors...so that gives me something to search for! all i need for my collection of RW and SF transitionals are the rare ones...im sure just like everyone else

i had to make a new account with photobucket and transport all my RW and SF pics from the old account to the new...took me a while and copying a photo and the reuploading is tedious and boring...yesterday i finished the SFs and uploaded the 72 jeep and it was fast...compared to the lag and other problems we have been experiencing lately...so i uploaded as many as i could yesterday to the casting show beflore it slowed down again...so ill finish posting more models as the site lets me in the next few days

Alex, I think you'll find that the extra long axle is unique to this model, so all thin wheel models should be legit.

Thanks John for raising this point and having checked my SF#42 images the wide track on the base does appear on the face of it to rule out an easy exchange with other thin wheeled axles taken from other SF models and yet we have both Nicks website and MCCH commenting on the possibility of such an occurance, so where has this come from? I have certainly not given much thought to it until now. JP has planted a seed of doubt in my head I am needing some clarity on this. SF is my love but I certainly do not have all the answers so if anyone can provide some evidence of the reason wheel swaps became topical in relation to the Iron Fairy I would love to know.

Here is the photo of a thin wheeled Irony Fairy Crane in blister. From my experience you can usually tell if the clips on the bottom of a model have been taken off as using a magnifying glass you can see small marks on the plastic which would not be there if they had not been removed. Also, thin wheeled versions have the lighter orange-red body and as John says I cannot think of another SF model that would be a doner for such a thing.
