A super rare item and something many collectors would love to have! I know there are some of us who don't want a certain German dealer to have this model as they have violated the conservation and preservation covenants (repeatedly) and been a blight on the hobby. I too hope this model does not end up in their hands.

It's my hope that anyone who might buy this model would leave it intact and not take the window insert out of this one. It needs to be preserved just as it is, paint chips and all.

The personality involved in this issue (Harvey) is no friend of the hobby. Their greed and shady (dishonest) dealings have gone unchallenged for far too long.

I agree with what Joe says about leaving that Caravan 'As is', it is like certain Antiques, you just don't touch them, they have gained all the grime and minor damage through Years of loving ownership.

I can't help feeling that we might want a forum kitty where members are free to donate little bits of funding (if that is not against the law!), so we can buy the odd model for safe keeping, or find out who wants a particular model (18 members perhaps), and divide the price of the cost to get the model between those 18 members to see how much each would have to put forward.

Had that 23c Caravan been on a 'BIN' for that price, it may have been a good idea for as many members here to put a sum of Money together to buy it!

I would be very happy to be part of this, because at least forum members would at least know that rare model is now safe in the ownership of the forum.

I think it will sell, and I like the “Collection Only” requirement as a means of keeping German philistines at bay, but I do wonder about the starting price. Yes, it’s worth a lot, but starting at £1,000? Better to kick off at, let’s say, £100 and let it run. (That £1,000 would have made a good BiN price.)

I do the same in my shop. I offer my restored rims for a high, but acceptable price, and offer negotiation. People contact me, and we work something out without those $§(§%-fees. Win-win for both parties

A high starting price keeps people away, which believe to get it for a few cents and reduces the bidders to those, who know the worth of a thing. I guess, there are enough people watching this, waiting for the right moment to negotiate with the seller, while the auction is still running. Suddenly the item "got lost" or isn´t for sale anymore and found a good home for a slightly lower price.

I agree with most members that the start price is too high and the seller is just too optimistic,or should he be?.
Its not his nicest looking specimen of the loot thats in his possession so should have started at .99p and let it run its course thus enticing bidders to have a strike and allowing this specimen to enter the markets or collections at whatever end-price to keep the RW collectors ticking once again,irrespective whoever wins it.
Although most would consider this to be an historical artefact myself included,i would personally inspect this specimen to render its true collective or intrinsic values.Naivity & novelty is temporary!
