In Nick's write up on this he says that the earliest red ones were painted over a white base or the original white model

I have the same roof 'Cross Hatching' detail appearing on the #44a Rolls-Royce in late 1961 to early 1962, the Jaguar was deleted from the range in 1962, so those 'Cross Hatch' versions may be quite late productions.

bright red - white undercote + red painting
orange-red - red undercote + red painting
dark red - only one red painting
