Very early Jag prepro

This was published in the 1st UK Matchbox magazine by Ray Bush (march 1977) There is no picture of the Jaguar in that magazine.



In the may 1977 he publih a photo of a cream and the text does not mention the red color for the body, only some different colors for seats used in preproduction stage.
Where did you find you picture Kevin ?
The oldest MATCHBOX UK magazine is from march 1977.

Maybe this would account for the red Jag then, painted with fire engine paint! Can you post the picture Kev?

Sorry Bob, I can not post the picture. The only copy I have got is in a model magazine from 1977, which was only printed in Black and White at the time. I have been searching the net for several Years for the original print which as far as I can recall was a Lesney internal paper and a copy was given (I would think by Ken Wetton as he was a friend of Brian Harvey), to my old friends at Grand Prix Models in Radlett and the proprietor, Brian Harvey, put a Black and White version of the picture in his magazine (Four Small Wheels), to show what new models were coming out of Lesney during the Year (1977), that is the magazine I have got somewhere in my masses of model magazines. I was hoping somebody on 'Moyboyz' (yourself or Mick), may actually have the original paper or flyer from Lesney the picture appeared in.

Marcel's and my posts have crossed each other, so more clarity is needed.

The picture shown by Marcel is an artist's impression. The picture published in Four Small Wheels for March 1977 is of an actual model of a finished 'Fire Engine' and Jaguar.

I can show the picture (below), of the Rolls-Royce and you can see it is of very low quality, as was the whole magazine from this period...

The Jaguar would have shown up as the same quality, but as I mentioned earlier, my notes from this time say it was Ivory (difficult to tell from the image, so maybe there was a description of the colour with the image), and one Day I will find it.

The Jag pictured in the May '77 issue of UK Matchbox looks very like the one at the top of this thread. The picture is poor quality, but there are no discernible sidelights or filler/vent caps on the tank.

Hello Kevin, I know Ray Bush made many of the drawings himself but not sure if he did with the above.
Anyway I took a search into AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL MATCHBOX COLLECTORS CLUB magazines.
I have all MICA magzines and all Ray Bush his UK MATCHBOX magzines but unfortunatly don't have all the magazines for the AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL MATCHBOX COLLECTORS CLUB.

In the november 1976 issue I found this:



1976 was already the 7the volume so this magzine started much earlier then UK MATCHBOX.
I once could buy quite a complete lot from an USA seller but postage to me was enourmous.

Thank's Marcel for the Jaguar picture and clearly the catalogue number had been assigned for the Jaguar at this time, November 1976, but I suppose Ray Bush was supplying exclusive information to his club members and somebody at Lesney were happy to tell him the catalogue number for this model and allowed Ray to publish this in his newsletter.

Only the Fire Engine picture came from UK MATCHBOX (Ray Bush his magazine) which was 1st published in march 1977 as a montly newsletter.
The Jaguar picture came from the AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL MATCHBOX COLLECTORS CLUB magazine (from the USA, from collector Harold L. Collpitts) and was already in it's 7rd year in 1976. It was also a montly magazine.
Hope this is now clear.

I have this model, can anyone tell me anything about it, value, rarity etc. or is it just a common or garden one!!! I also have quite a lot of other models, is there anywhere I can find out if I have any rarities or odd ones?
