You could do what some Germans with very deep pockets do and bid high four figure sums the downfall comes when another with deeper pockets comes along and the price goes way out of reach for the rest of us

Sniping is not the problem as you still have to place your highest bid so if you went higher doing the same he would lose. I love a snipe mainly for the fact that if I put a high bid in early then for some reason the bidiots will keep bidding one extra increment every time just to see how high you have gone and if you look at the bid history there will be a long list of one bid me, one bid other party !
I now prefer to put my highest price at the end and if I win great but if not then that's it and on to the next one. if he wins and can then resell them at a higher price to make his profit then there must be some leeway left to bid ( if he is going to make a profit then he will not bid as high as someone who really wants the model ). I suspect you are looking for a bargain price model and this is not always possible as rarely nowadays does a good model go unnoticed

A pet hate of mine is when a bidder places a bigh bid and wins the auction only to retract their bid. This totally wastes everyones time and f###ks the auction.

Ooooh i think we have been here before with she who shall not be named!!!

As long as the winning bidder pays up they cannot be justifiably critcised for paying whatever they wish to pay out of their own pockets. Its a shame there arent enough nice rare toys for everyone to have enough however anyone who hasnt won clearly was not prepared to dig deep enough so doesnt deserve to win. Discovering that the winner is dealer not a collector just goes to show that if a dealer can profit from winning ebay auctions then the final selling price was cheap for the specific item - indeed there are less sellers of quality items using a method of selling when prices are consistently below market levels so its not in the interests of us as buyers who will one day sell to see sellers getting raw deals............

I disagree, serious collectors of vintage Lesneys are getting rarer every year as they sell up or die off ! Every day that passes brings supply closer to the demand which is why prices are falling for all except the very rarest........

The Mb collector base has certainly shrunk but not to an extent whereby its irrecoverable. The 2006-2013 recession which plagued the worlds economy played a catastrophic role in this shrinking.households had little or no disposable income, hence little or no investment funds to dabble with on investments or hobbies but rather curb all frills and concentrate on paying of mortgages, liens, credit cards, dumping bullion, streamlining businesses, unemployment etc. The rise & fall of gold prices from $600 to the peaking at $1800 also affected this area of collectors in any field with $billions in losses.
On a very positive note things are generally looking a lot better for Mb collectors with quite a fair amount of affordable htf's & rares appearing in the market which otherwise would never be seen and nows the time to buy cos when gold prices are on the up then so too are Mb demands with higher prices and climbing.

I hold no grudges against winners or Mull64.I cannot blame them for bidding higher than me cos whatever value they see in a model may not catch me in time which is the consequence of my loss.
Mull64 seems to have guts or more money than uses for it as he bids blindly and i watched him closely for over 3yrs and i know just how to beat him at an auction on/for certain desirable castings.
He used to be a frequent client/buyer from our famous faker Cudasub and Ivo from hungary and i did alert him once that he was playing into the hands of fakers and noticed that he no longer buys from them which is a good sign. He bought a good few GPW Tv Rental & Ice cream Commers with base swops & touch-ups from Cudasub. He also did buy a repainted #28 Mack Dumper from Michael (ex forum member) for around $550 purporting it to be a pre-production as advertised.
I was unaware that he was an investor/reseller.
