Jason still has one in his models that he has for sale in 'The Marketplace' that isn't too bad. Because more Sellers are now showing better pictures of their Lesneys for sale, a few more of these may be found, but they do seem quite a rare first casting to find. kwakers

thanks Jason
GHOSTHUNTER wrote:Now here is a collector really enjoying his hobby. Well done Dan on the running repairs to the 'Fire Engine'. The model for me though, is the open base Unimog, another one I am keen to add to my little collection of non R-R models, looks to be in pretty good condition. Shame about the tyres but this is common and what I would do is cut some strips of masking tape long enough and wide enough to put on the wheel first and then put the tyre on and the thickness of the tape will be enough to keep the tyres on. If you don't have masking tape, use a sticky paper label cut to size.

Ghosty.
i have use elmers glue to help keep the tires on the hubs

I agree. The bed is so well protected by the sides and the jib that it seems unlikely that it will show any appreciable paint damage.
thanks guys and i will try it sometime

matchbox_n_molars wrote:I would say they're all hard to find without a doubt Dan. I think the model with the broadest collector appeal would be the 71C Ford Wrecker. I guess there are a number of us looking at the bases on Unimogs but I think any variation hound would be delighted to find that wrecker with the amber windows and the smooth bed. Great finds my friend! :!:
thanks Greg...you dont need to look at the base of the unimog if you are looking for the open base...you have to look on the base if you are looking for the closed bad with the extra piece at the rear axle
kwakers wrote:All three variations are very tough to find Dan, nice work. I just added that same Fire Truck variation last year from a friend, but I am now finding the dacaled version with the later tow slots base very hard to find. Numi's Forum E Bay lead got me a similar Unimog late last year also, but that Amber Wrecker with smooth deck is one I have never had. Of the three here, that one is rare and also very expensive to find in any condition. Great Job Lad.....kwakers
thanks Dick! and i have my eye out for the decals raised panel fire pumper...that numi is a good egg!

nickjones wrote:Reg gifted me with a repainted smooth base / amber window wrecker which I ruined by putting it in brake fluid and forgetting about, I already had a inscribed base amber window (with a hole in the windscreen!). A displayable amber window would be nice but a Unimog with the early base would be the one I would most like to own.
ouch Nick...im sure you were pissed and that mistake!

Very nice finds Dan, the wrecker is my favourite. I found one in an unlikely place a year or two ago and was well pleased. Can't find a Unimog though.

Dan.
If you do decide to remove the overpainting be very careful. The paint on these later issues is not as tough as the paint on the early ones
