I'm glad you (and others) do.

But it's no secret that I lose serious interest in most castings after 1965.

funny...thats where my interest begins...of course thats when i started getting them as i was 4 years old at that time...even though i had some models that came out before 1965 like the coke truck...most were later variations of the earlier models

I am the same way. Although I was born well into the Superfast years, I still like the earlier castings more, especially the 1958-63 or so era models, with their interesting variations, and proliferation of silver wheels, which I think look good. The later castings are often very nice and detailed (like the Dodge truck), but just don't get me going as much.

I have mild nostalgia for the 80s era Matchbox of my childhood, but I am more likely to purchase similar era Majorette and Tomica, when able to find them.

For me, it was very sad to see this great casting with bright colors and sharp decals replaced with a dull boring dodge truck with an even more dull colored plastic rear section. The cattle truck was one of the many cuts that lead to the death of a thousand cuts that ended my Matchbox collecting with the passing regular wheels at the close of 1969.

I find all the different quirks and preferences of fellow collectors interesting and enjoy when these little details find their way into a post or thread. I recall watching a dealer approach Christian F. in an attempt to sell him a MB roadway. Christian very politely informed the person: "That's outside of my scope of interest."

Everyone has their own personal scope of interest.

Welcome back.
This decal is very interesting. One would assume that the outer edges of the red background would be parallel to one another. I notice with the placement of this decal it is at a slight angle and you would think at an angle on the other side as well. Can you please have a look and see if the right side is also at an angle. I am curious as to how detailed this decal was made, given it would have a text facing the other way when printed in little blocks.
It would have been a tricky operation to fit at any sort of speed though.
Like many others I love this casting, colours and decals…very long lasting quality.

I had missed your Post on this one-piece Coke decal Antonin, so I am very glad you showed it here again in George's casting show. What a different method of application this large one piece decal would require. It seems as though it might be faster to apply, but maybe much more difficult to smooth the air bubbles out of and put on straight? Another unknown Lesney variation I had never heard of before. kwakers

First of all I want to say that I am not questioning Antonin's ability or integrity regards his models, but I have zoomed in really close to the rear section of the top part of the decal and there is a hint of an edge of the decal making me think that a previous owner may have painted the top edge of the sign board in a very closely matched Red paint, therefor covering up the Yellow edging that appears on all models shown in this thread so far.

So please Antonin, can you show us the other side of the sign board and if possible, get as close as you can but keeping the picture in focus. Another good picture would be to get the Daylight shining on the sign board at an angle, that would certainly highlight the natural edge of the decal if it is there.

Thanks for posting extra photo.

In your photo I have marked a spot in left corner to measure or compare with same position on other side which in the second photo from top looks different (may just be angle of photo. .ie to check line of decal follows from one side to other.

I was looking at the discolouring between the red and the crates and it occurred to me that the text is also discoloured. You can see a patch of white on letter C in Coca on second photo from top. So this looks like it is a lacquer coating over the decal, on sign board front and rear running onto bottles.

I don’t recall seeing this lacquer effect on other decals.

Perhaps a previous owner saw part of decal peeling away and the lacquer was applied to preserve it.

I love the spw version, now these are few and far between.
