Here is an example of crimped axle-ends on the 'Yesteryear' Y-3 Riley 'MPH' shown in the 1973 pocket catalogue and this was not the only model in the same catalogue with them, so yes as "tjlglass" says, crimped axles were for quickness.

I just found another casting difference and added the pic to my initial post for your viewing that shows the "Superfast" logo on the Prepro appears a bit more inwards/to the right.

...are easily seen and maybe the Y-17 Hispano Suiza, as that was a brand new model addition.
