Does seem high but one without the rear brace above the bumper is quite hard to find and in very good condition.
As you said still very high. j

You would certainly need to be very observant to notice that subtle casting difference. I have to admit that i did not notice that when i first saw the listing. Well spotted Jason!......but still too much money imho.

The Seller is Ron Slyder and his partner Wayne at Diecast Toy Exchange, so the price is just high market for a mint rare SF. I know both very well, so there are no funny bids, no tricks, no dumping on the second Bidder, just a huge number of serious Buyers looking for their own Holy Grail as they see this one. What value can you put on a dream variation that you have never seen or held before?
Once again everyone here is viewing this variation through English eyes, in the English market, not taking into account only a very few of these 'earliest braceless casting' gas cap models may have been exported to America, Germany, etc. Of course Jason spotted and knows that tough casting very well, he has a very nice one (Or two! LOL) I am sure. The rare regular wheels I need are $500++ Mint IF they could EVER be found this nice, that is just the world we live in today. For me to spend half that on NMint rares I still need would be nice, but they can't be found anywhere at any price even at lower conditions in the U.S. They may be found in other countries, as Mick SMS was able to supply my 45A dashless Vauxhall in yellow for me, (Thank You Mick) but are not seen here in the U.S.
Graham's #5 Bus RW 'Rare' decal variations bring that same average $500 figure every time he has them to offer on E Bay. I would much rather own a rare casting variation than a rarely seen decal placement, but we all think differently. Some collectors bid with deeper emotions, as well as with deeper pockets than I, so they have beat my E Bay bids thousands of times before, and continue to do so in the future. With some rare models, my bids seemed like a joke compared to the closing price on a model. There is no surprise to me here at all. DTE might even buy any Mint spares you may have on this one at 1/2 price to sell their serious underbidder..........kwakers

Hello all, I must agree with Dick,s (kwakers) post on this model. About 12 years back at a Mica Convention I had a spare one, and a Frenchman offered me over 100 pounds for it, two years later again at a Mica Convention I ran into the same buyer, who had a nice 57b model with a Mid Blue base for this he wanted over 100 pounds. I had looked for this base for along time but never found one, some collectors might think that that this was a lot to pay for just a coloured base but this one made my base collection complete.

I have only seen one since and that was in a Vectis Auction and it fetched over well over that, so money is not every thing when you need a certain model for your collection.
