My understanding is that it was a trial batch (perhaps one gross only) which was painted in a non-standard colour and sent to Australia to test the waters following disappointing sales of the red version. (The suggestion was that the red version wasn't selling simply because the local buses were green.) For whatever reason, there was no follow-up.
It seems unlikely that it was a promotional issue since it carries standard labels.
